15mm rods. Anyone now a good supplier?

Spoke with him today, here's what he said.

These are based on a 10 - 20 order run and that they'd be anodized black in pairs

2 x 12" - $42.00
2 x 6" - $29.00
2 x 4" - $21.00

He also mentioned that if more were ordered, he offers quantity discounts. I'd like a few pairs for myself so that's already 2 orders.

Raw aluminum is raw aluminum, people know what oxidation looks like and yes it isn't pretty. Not to mention these rods we buy from stock material companies aren't even close to be being square. Most are lope sided and have bumps, nicks, etc.. on them, making it harder on your rod support clamps. Don't get me wrong I'm all about the DIY and you might get lucky find a few rods here and there that might be closer to square, but most of time I'd say not even close.

As for your rig I'm sure it looks nice, but you mentioned it was painted black. Anything painted black looks good, these rods can't be painted because of the tight tolerance needed for the clamp and needs to be properly anodized.

If you guys are interested let me know thru my email, not PM.

The rods from orange aluminum don't work, they are not 15mm they are 14.8 loose on a commercial system.

Oh? That is in direct opposition to what hoarp001 posted:

One of these two is wrong. One of these two is posting little more then an irresponsible assumption. Which one is it? Who is right? Oh the drama! Oh the mystery!

Darin,
I am excited to see how your rails are coming along. I really need a new set rails, so heres to hoping you get them out soon... I will happily pick up a set and be a test pilot of the first batch if you can get them out in the next month. Especially if you can get 18" or 24" lengths. BTW; are you shooting with an AF100 now?

IKEA! I took apart my girlfriends lamp and shat myself right after. Perfect diameter. 15mm.

a lamp like this will give you 4 rods. One of the rods is slightly shorter than the rest. The one I used is silver... I would scope it out. I am using these rods to make my rig this weekend. The nice thing is that they screw into each other so you could variate and make a shoulder mount... and a tripod rail system...which is my grand plan for these bad boys.

I couldnt find the silver one...but this one looks the same just black. Definately check out Ikea first.

10 bucks...

Im almost positive the link above is the model...if you want to risk it...you still gain a sweet lamp. Again. Check IKEA for them.

did you measure with micrometer/caliper? could be great!

i should be getting my first production round of carbon fiber rails in soon, then to a few testers and then might have them ready to sell. at the moment the price point is looking like $25/12"pair

Dude, I've been up and down every aisle of that store testing every single crazy named item. I spent hours, days. I used to work at a TV station across the street and would go and wander and search for the holy grail after work. I found one, a base rod for a shade that fit, but it had a slit down the center.

If you have indeed found the holy grail - good for you.

It'll need independent verification before I get excited though...

I did not. However, tomorrow I will pop a rod into a zacuto at work and see if the shoe fits...I traced it earlier today and the match was seemingly identical...

let this be our cinderella....

Ikan's statement reads remarkably like conventional "FUD" (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt), alas, a common modern "marketing technique".

So is there actually a published standard? All we seem to have is nominally 15mm O.D. rods, 60mm O/C.

According to the Ikea website, the "NOT" floor lamp is not for sale online.
Furthermore, it is not available in any of the 37 stores in the United States.

ok, i just saw this about the ikea lamp and said to myself holy **** theres one of those in my basement, ran down there and sure enough its the same thing! 15mm rods galore! i believe it was purchased at walmart 3 or 4 years ago by the way.
