15mm rods. Anyone now a good supplier?

I would love to hear if they work & how you cut them.

When I started my track dolly, I bought a metal cutting blade for my compound mitre saw to cut the aluminum angle iron and it worked well. So I plan to use the same blade when the rod gets here.

You should just use them as 6 foot lengths and have a set of uber-rails.

And take a picture.

HAHA that's what i'm saying then you can throw that picture on the rig photo thread.

i think i might buy some dolly track rails from them. pretty cheap.

Great vendor. I ordered a couple of 6 foot pieces of 15mm rod plus some other stuff I needed. They shipped quickly and I had everything a couple days later. Excellent.

I still waiting from your feedback. How it work? heavy? smooth? Can you let us know it worth or no.

Thanks.

It is what it is.

They are simply 15mm aluminum round extrusions. Mill finish (not shiny, slightly rough), but you can sand and polish them to a mirror finish if that's what you want. They are as heavy as any other piece of aluminum of the same volume. Not sure what you want me to say?

I work with aluminum a fair bit and there is nothing extraordinary about this 15mm aluminum rod. Except for the diameter. I don't see anyone else selling bulk 15mm rod online?

I don't know what the normal tolerances are for other devices that use the standard 15mm rods on 60mm centers. But I can't imagine why these wouldn't work with any of them. Maybe with some additional simple surface smoothing, but only a minor issue and well worth the very low price, at least IMHO.

The vendor (Orange Aluminum) appears to be great. Quick delivery at a good price. Can't ask for much more than that.

Just to warn you, 15mm rods usually measure in just under, 14.8-9 so if your rods are dead on 15mm, they might be a bit tight if you are using them with commercially produced rod accessories.

Pete.

They fit in your rod support ok?

I'm making my own. (This is the DIY forum! :-)

Exactly.

So there's still no answer to this. Anybody else buy these rods who can tell us if they actually work instead of the guy who insists that they must work even though he hasn't tested them in any kind of commercially available and standard 15mm rod supports?

Still searching...
