Hi
1080 50i, 108025p,720 50p or 720 25p
Which format is best for end product mpeg2 DVD?

Which workflow?

I can use
Vegas 8.0c
Mainconcept AVCHD/Raylight
AVCHD UpShift
Have done some testing but its hard to tell and I´m
not quite satisfied with the SD´s I made so far.

Perhaps anyone knows the best way?

If you went for 720 50p I think that would be best for converting into 576 50i (PAL) as it is the same refresh frequency. I have actually been using 1080 50i due to problems with Final Cut Express and the 720P modes, and the quality seems fine, but I would have thought 50p would be the best choice.

Sigh again, I dont have swictablity :(

My answer to your question:
If your pc can handle it I would just shoot 50i.
Which basicly plays back at 25 frames per second looks very filmlike without any ugly frameblending when finishing for mpeg2 DVD
I would only shoot 25p or 50 for effects work or the internet.

Thanks for advices!
After some more tests it seems that 1080 25p after transcoding and Raylight runs best on Vegas timeline/preview , renders fast and looks pretty good.
I will test 720 more as you suggest studio 1972 (do you use PAL?).
1080 50i does not look so good after render - don´t know why.

Hmm, I haven't tried 25p, I wonder, does that produce a 25p SD DVD or would it still be 50i?

Yes, I do use PAL BTW.

The way I do it is to output a Quicktime Reference file (which is still HD as it is pointing to the AIC files). I then use iDVD to produce the DVDs, this converts the files to SD itself. It seems to do an ok job to my eyes, see the attached snapshot.

Its right - 720 50 p - is best for end product SD DVD
I discovered ugly interlace flicker on vertical and horisontal edges
when shooting 1080 25p.
I´m using Vegas 8.0c for edit and render.
