14.61 gigs of info, but no video

Hi all,

So I wish that I had come here and read Barry's guide to offloading on a mac before I went on my shoot yesterday. Now I know the proper way to do it, but I have 4 cards worth of possibly glitched footage to deal with.

I used Finder to transfer my footage, including several spanned clips, onto my laptop and then made a back up of those on my external hard drive. When I go to File and Transfer them in FCS2, I get a progress bar that shows up as FCS cycles through the clips I'm trying to import but nothing shows up for me to transfer. Basically the same thing when I try to Ingest with p2cms. The closest I can get to making it work is using Premiere CS3, which will import the files, but plays the audio with a stillframe on top.

I recorded 4:3 60i DV to the cards, and made sure to flip the copy protection tab on the cards when stupidly using Finder to transfer the files. Has anyone run into a problem like this, and has anyone ever fixed it?

Matt

edit: the folders i have that are my "copies" of my p2 cards have 14.68 gigs of data in them.

Yessir. I copied over Contents and the lastclip.txt or whatever it is.

I'm having some success with the problem with Edius, which is giving me video but no sound on 3/4 of the cards (well, the folders i copied from the cards). Premiere Pro CS3 is giving me audio but no video, so hopefully i can merge the two together and will have 3 functioning cards, but that still leaves me short an hour of video (although PPCS3 will play the audio for that).

Now, in PPCS3, even though I opened a standard DV project, the MXF files I'm importing are showing up as unrendered. As I understand it, a project opened with the proper settings should have no "red bar". It could be, of course, that the red bar is because my files are corrupt or glitched, but I wonder if anyone has experience with importing DV recorded onto a P2 card in Premiere...maybe I'm doing something wrong and Premiere can't play the video for some other reason than that it's somehow corrupt.

What method did you use to import the clips in EDIUS? I can't help you with the other apps, but may be able to help you with EDIUS.

Hi Jason,

I used Capture>>P2 Select. I clicked on add folder to find the card folder. I did copy and Import, selected the clips that showed up in the viewer and clicked on import to bin.

hmm.. You should have audio then. Did you drop a clip onto a VA track? You can also just double click a clip or drag it into the preview window and play it that way, just to verify that you have audio.
