1394 800 Drives

Does anybody know if I can use a 1394 800 mbbs portable drive to transfer the P2 files with the HVX-200?
I have a 160 gb portable drive 1394 800 /400 and a cable 4 pin (400 mbbs) to 9 pin (800 mbbs). I set the camera to 1394 Host and when I connect the drive to format it, it says :Initial Error.
I don't know if it is because the drive is over 120 gb or because the interface is 800. Maybe the camera needs a firmware update???

I have a 2.5in firewire 800 drive that I use to back up straight from the camera & i have no issues. Same thing- a cable 4 pin (400 mbbs) to 9 pin (800 mbbs). My HDD doesn't have a firewire 400.

How large is your drive? I have a 160 gb. Maybe that is the issue!!!

If that is a bus powered drive, it won't work. You need a powered drive because the HVX200 supplies no power.

Yes, it has an external power source. I think it has to do with the formarting or capacity of the HDD.
