To be more precise, NTSC HBR mode records at 29.97p, while MJPEG HD mode records at 30p. 24H mode at 80% slow-motion also records at 29.97p, though it is internally tagged to play back at 23.98p.
Internally, the HBR mode works exactly the same as FSH mode. The only difference is that the image sensor is scanned progressively at 29.97p in HBR mode. However, the progressive image stream is still compressed in interlaced mode, producing a 29.97psF file that is indistinguishable from an FSH file. The peak reliable bitrate I've been able to obtain from the HBR/FSH encoder is 100Mbps.
When set to 80% Slow-Motion mode, the GH2's 24p encoder produces a 29.97p video stream that is marked as a 23.98p video file. It can easily be conformed to 29.97p in a video editor with no loss of quality. The 24p encoder is capable of much higher bitrates than the HBR/FSH encoder, but in 80% Slow Motion mode, it does not record sound. If you don't need sound recording, I'd definitely recommend the 24p 80% Slow Motion mode.
I'm planning on releasing a major update, Flow Motion v2.0, in about a week. This will feature a new technique that boosts the bitrate of high detail 24p 80% Slow Motion videos by an extra 25%, in order to handle the higher bandwidth required by 29.97p encoding with no loss in image quality.
