You know you probably shouldn't post anything if you have to start with a disclosure.

I come from a film background. Even then, I am about 245 years away from being invited into the ASC. I suck at lighting. I have never used the DVX, so all these scene files and such are new to me.

Anyways... I just wanted to post something.

I was disappointed in this camera until I got the closeup of my dog Isabel. Wow! Of course, any disappointed I have should be directed at myself, I know that.

Hopefully in the next week or so, I can figure out how to get something decent on tape.

I hope I am not in violation by linking to my site where I advertise the camera for rental. I don't mean to come across as an HVX pimp, it is just the easiest place for me to post.

I personally don't get the big deal about the HVX. Yeah I understand all the technical garble but I haven't seen anything that proves how its better than the DVX. Too me the footage looks hazy and oversaturated. I'm not talking about your clips but just HVX in general. Perhaps I'll wait for a later edition because it's too new to be of any great value. The way everyone talks about this camera I expected everything to look like CSI or whatever, but it doesn't, everything looks fuzzy. I would never attempt an aerial shot or anything too significant with an HVX.

Maybe, I don't have the patience to download 50 megabyte clips of people's work just to be disappointed because it looks no different than a $200 consumer video camera. Everyone has a lot of hype over the HVx but the proof is not in the footage. You are the first one that I have found that just posted straight images instead of 1gb clips. Sheesh, what happened to compressing footage?:(

DIVX is a great compression tool. Absolutely amazing and it can take a 1gb file down to about 2megs and still keep great DVD like quality, but no one will do it because they love making huge files on their apple computers. Divx can work on apple too but videomakers seem slow or resistant to compressing their footage down.

DIVX is FREE there is no reason to shun it. Great quality, best compression, smaller file size, need I say more?

If you ever get around to posting some footage, please compress with Divx.

try and do a search for an earlier version like 2.0 they compress faster than the later versions. I think anyway. Haven't updated since I used 5.0 pro.

I swear by it. :)

Despite all that I said I like your pics. I agree the shots with your dog are more interesting. I like your dog. How old is he?

Good luck with the HVX, I still think DVX is better. I haven't been shown otherwise.

Sorry that is no disrespect to your images. I'm greatful for your attempts. My complaints have more to do with the camera than your footage. Your images are great considering it's done with HVX. HVX to me is like a $200 consumer camera and all my comments are in regard to that and not your clips.

Cheers

Bugs: ehheh... What's Up Doc?

Doc: Not the HVX. Still not quite up to the standards that people say it is.

In all honesty I really wish i had read this thread, I could have saved 6gs last week.
I had no idea. :)

boomerang maybe that's a joke. Ha ha if it is, but seriously I don't think HDV is that great. Possibly in the future but not quite yet. Pure HD is still the best I think. Maybe it isn't I just haven't seen why this is so good.

Handycam is Sony right? It is no wonder why you have the problems you do? I don't want to discourage against buying costly equipment, I don't think you should hold off on my account. I am sorry if this will have a cause to what you plan to do. I'm not saying the HVX is the equal to a $200 camera, of course it isnt. Maybe bad choice of words I'm just trying to say I don't see what the fuss is about just yet. I'm sure that their will be nice movies made with it in time. My eyes cannot see this great stuff yet.

What I am saying is that all the hoorah surrounding this camera made me think that it would look like HD like CSI , but it doesn't. I just want to know why so much fuss over this camera. Not that it ever could it's only a $5000 camera, but with such fuss you think...

Like i said I have no intention to sound rude. If you are mocking my problems with English it is not nice. I am doing my best abecause it is not my first language. Sorry again for mistiakes I make. I try to check this before I write on here. Maybe I feel to weird to write anymore. My english isn't so good but I was told it was. I am sorry I will work on this.

Well, I shot the footage and I will be the first to tell you that my stills are not representative of what the camera is capable of.

The lighting wasn't set up, the color balance was off, I should have adjusted it in camera, etc.

I am still learning how to use it.

Not to mention the stills were not exported correctly. Everyday I use the camera, I get better with it.

It will just take some time for people to get used to it.

I am sorry but if you had read this thread last week I could not have helped you. I only posted my comment today like you did. This comment was not here last week. It appeared today.

Have you looked at the desert footage? The basketball footage? The wolves footage?

Its kinda of like a SNL character to me... I have this funny euro voice in my head when I read Bugs post.

Well if english is not your first langauge thats fine but I would really try to think about your comments alittle bit more before you pass such harsh judgements.

Its funny how we want lets say this CSI look for 6k and natural lighing....

Sorry if the HVX is not for you, maybe the Red camera will live up your expectations.

Cheers

Thank you for pointing me in a good direction. I will look for these on dvxuser. I want to know why this camera is so good. Thank you.

I think judging an HD camera by a couple of jpeg files is a little premature. If you're gonna make sweeping judgments at least look at other footage for comparison. There's a lot of good footage a couple posts down from this one. Motion is a much better indicator of how this camera performs, not compressed underlit jpegs.

I'm going to do a camera to camera comparision test with my HVX and my Sony Digital 8 camcorder that I bought for $500 two years ago... I'll post results soon....

Please do! If I may add, it would be interesting if you could snap a few of the same shots with a 35mm camera as well. We could then get a very raw idea how far we've come.

mate,

its not a hdv camera.

I dont think you know what you're on about, are you looking at what I'm looking at? because it spanks the DVX.

I only enjoy # eight of the 720p. :/ But yeah it does matter whos using it. I've seen some great stuff and some shitty stuff come from DVX's and HVX's and all that. its not a 500 palm-corder as stated above.

Reflex - I really liked that one too, I knew when I was shooting it it was going to turn out good.

Even though the lighting sucks on the rest, the detail this camera is able to pull off just amazes me.

I can't put my finger on what is wrong with the other shots. I first thought maybe you were a little soft on the focus or now that I look again I don't think so. Maybe it IS the compression or the lighting...
