Personaly i use 1080i because i dont like the pal look 24P what does surprise me a bit however is the little difference there seems in 1080i and 720P even played direct from the camera on my 50" 1920P tv.720P seems very good .
http://vimeo.com/19927743 it may be hard to notice on vimeo anyway but these are identical shots but different frame rates.

sample comparisons of a resolution chart

When deinterlaced(even properly) the GH2 1080i contains about the same vertical resolution as the GH2 720p @ 60 FPS. The GH2 1080i horizontal resolution is slightly greater than the 720p @ 60 FPS horizontal resolution. However, 1080i and 720p are nowhere near what the GH2/GH13 1080p @ 24 FPS mode can do for resolution.

Here are some test clips straight out of the camera of a resolution chart for all of the different modes. You can download the originals on Vimeo. Make sure you turn off scaling and use a 1080p monitor though.

Many say i am wrong but you agree then that 720P resolution is to the eye as good as 1080I

I need to break this down into Horizontal and vertical resolution because the ranking is different for each one.

Horizontal Resolution:
1. 1080p - about 900 lines
2. 1080i and 720p - 800 to 850 lines

I think horizontal resolution is limited much more by the scaling than by final output resolution.

Vertical Resolution:
1. 1080p - 800-850 lines
2. 1080i(Not deinterlaced - Static scene) - 750 lines
2. 1080i(deinterlaced with Yadif deinterlace in VLC) and 720p - 650 lines

Please note that 1080i not deinterlaced is not a realistic scenario because it would have serious interlaced artifacts. It was included to show that 1080i does not contain as much resolution as 1080p period!

Horizontal Resolution:
1. 1080p ETC and 1080i ETC - 750 lines
2. 720p ETC - 600 lines

Vertical Resolution:
1. 1080p ETC - 800 lines
2. 1080i ETC and 720p ETC - 600 lines

As you can see the 720p mode is not desirable for resolution in the ETC mode. That is understandable since it starts with so much less resolution.

i am not sure what this meens, all the interlaced film i have done has been edited on a timeline and rendered to what format i want IE Blu ray /achd disc, would my software have deinterlaced it automaticaly.

http://vimeo.com/19291613 is interlaced but i did not deinterlace specificaly.

When you upload interlaced footage to streaming sites they usually deinterlace it when they re-encode it. That deinterlacing is not usually ideal and their low bit rate encoding don’t help either.

Your encoding program may or may not automatically deinterlace the video. There are usually options for turning it on or off in the encoder program or in the codec configurations.

If the footage is not deinterlaced at all there will be a double image whenever there is horizontal motion. There are other artifacts that can appear as well like little horizontal black lines.

When i make my films from 1920x1080i to HD disc i have not seen the problems you refer to or when watching direct GH2 playback to tv,being pal 24P is far worse,i shall certainly look into some 720P projects in future.thank you.
