This past friday I did a 1 hour capture direct to the laptop, an amd dual core 4800 with edius broadcast. 200 g raid 0 hard drive. This was a live radio music show/ with live performers and spectators that we do every friday morning and then show on our local cable. The workflow was. Edit in edius broadcast , transfer to canopus dv. render 52min of 1080/60 hd =1h 17 min. dv avi. Then rt to dvcam and dvd . dvd for cable, and dvcam for archive.
No hickups.

No problem here doing same on a MacBook Pro (2.0 GHz) and Final Cut Pro. Haven't done that long of a capture, but still, no problems.

This is where I bought mine. They are a little on the pricy side but you get what you pay for. Its a little heavy yes but what you get is a portable workstation. There are some other name brands that use the same computer that is being exported from China and they just change the name.
I bought from them because they offer a 2% discount for cash. . I had aproblem with the battery charging and I shiped it back to CA and it was repaired and returned and working wonderful.
