Anyone else notice the 1080 25p mode is very joulty in comparison to the 25p mode on the dvx100? Even when i increase the shutter speed its still really joulty? Anyone know why this is? Its putting me off shooting 1080 25p......

Just to get rid of the obvious question - could it be you're playing back on a PC that can't keep up with performance? Try it in 60p/i mode and/or playback on the camera's LCD

Some consumer flat-screen TVs have "features" that can also incorrectly screw with the stuttery factor which is why I recommend checking on your camera's LCD and/or a Pro Broadcast monitor you know is set right.

Well its mainly in te LCD of the camcorder but its also noticable on my Apple cine screen. I know its nothign to do with the speed of my MAC. I running a 2.8ghz 8 core power mac....

Anyone else came accross this?

Yes I have noticed the same. But unfortunately I can not tell you why this happens. I haven't been shooting much in this mode that's why it's not a big issue for me.

Yea, i would like to shoot in this mode more. Ive seen other peoples footage and they somehow get away with the footage looking smoothin this mode. At present im resulting to shooting 50i which isn't ideal.

I dont use PAL but I havent noticed anything like you are mentioning in 24p compared to my old DVX.

For productions that I know are going straight to web, I shoot 1080p25 with a 1/50th shutter (1/25th if I need the extra stop in poor light). The image on the camera's LCD is a little stuttery, but playback on my Macs is smooth. I edit ProRes (not ProResHQ), with footage coming from FW800 RAID or plain SATA drives, on either a Mac Pro 8x2.8GHz or a MacBook Pro 2x2.2GHz.

I have, on occasion, upped the shutter speed to cope with bright daylight, but haven't seen any loss of smoothness in playback. I haven't upped the shutter high enough to start seeing Gladiator-esque motion strobing.

The only disadvantage I see in shooting 25p is that the autofocus is pretty ropey, to the extent that I turn it off. I was rather surprised on a recent 50i shoot, when I accidentally turned autofocus on and discovered that it works.
