100Mbps Max Latitude Native 24/25p Patch

this patch has the widest dynamic range for the Gh1 in native 24p, correct? or is there something better out there? i've been using this patch, and love it! :)

Well, the dynamic range is something else but it appears that 100Mbps patch is high as GH1 can go in terms of bitrate upping. I myself have been looking for information concerning what GH1 can do at the moment and the only alternative for this patch seems to be low-GOP trials. I haven't tried them myself yet but GOP 3 or 6 (if not 1 for reasons of stability) may be tried. Reducing GOP may bring smoother playback and may give some more headroom in post but at the same time may reduce stability. However, given it is very hard to hit 100Mbps even with this patch (AVCHD generaly stays around 70s max) I am not quite sure whether the increased amount of data really brings anything worth carrying on our shoulders (or those of our NLEs) but I am interested in using this low GOP approach for greenscreening. The 4:2:2 brought by MJPEG's 720p is far too low in resolution to pull a good key for HD and the more data in the file, the higher the likelihood of pulling a good key due to better separation.

Thus, we may go for the low GOP path next. I hope this helps...

I don't believe the DR is affected by any patch rather by selection of smooth, dynamic, ect and ISO and to a certain extent NR. In theroy the MJpeg with 4.2.2 hack in smooth -2-2-2-2 low ISO would provide the widest DR, it won't be pretty. Do you often exceed the range of the camera, do you shoot alot in bright sun?

Hi Ipowell,

I'm undecided atm which patch to try next. I've tried blackout patch and it worked great without any error. Now I'd like to update!
My priority is to get highest quality possible with GH1 at Native 24p and to have very good reliability.
Would you recommend 75mbps or 100mbps or sth else?

thnx

For Native 24p, the 100Mbps Max Latitude Patch is the next (and final) step up from the Blackout-Powell Patch. The 75Mbps Peak Reliability Patch does not have Native 24p support.

Ipowell, I need to shoot in 25p (720p or 1080p) and i need the highest Bit rate.

what's the best firmware so far!? can you help me?

thank you so much!

The 100Mbps Max Latitude Patch produces the highest bitrates of my GH1 patches in PAL 720p25 and 1080p25 as well.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I know nothing about the GH1, however I'm interested to buy one. With any of these hacks, will it allow an NTSC camera bought in the US to record PAL/25p/50p?? Thanks

If you read the first page of the thread, there is plenty of info there and in the hack section of the site. The PTool software, has an option for switching 24/25p. Once installed on the camera, you just need to select which territorial flavour you want.

That doesnt answer my question, and the part you refer to is confusing.

100 max latitude patch is highest average bitrate you gonna get get on FHD,drawback is no SH 50fps for slowMo,rigs got nice patch(max61,average biterate is just little slower than 100)which works really nice in 25p mode and 50fps and have timelapse mode on mjpeg(2fps).Search for rigs posts and max latitude patch 100v2 or something. This patches are all native progressive(25p)

Hi, Im shooting in a forest for a couple of days. Which patch is the most stable for such filming?

nice stuff im still leanring this stuff im use to cannons Magic lanteren having a menu on the camera. im still learning what everything is doing but ill get it

I've had the best luck with DrDave's 24p Concert patch

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?260823-GH13-Concert-and-Event-Patch-24p

and llpowell's 60i peak reliability patch

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?254789-75Mbps-GH1-Peak-Reliability-Patch-V2-update

All the other high bit rate patches I tried broke immediately when I started filming trees swaying in the wind. I prefer DrDave's patch since 24p is easier to work with than 60i. The image quality for those two patches seems similar even though the second one has a higher bit rate. (Perhaps because its easier to compress progressive frame than interlaced frames?)

So, do you have any actual answers to the questions I posed? And a link to that "rigs" patch you write about?
