100A footage - is it "newsy"?

Hello everyone,

I am fully starting my next short in April, but I have already shot a very minor portion of it (newscast) that will be playing on TVs in the backgrounds of the intro scene in the movie.

Shot it at 60i. This is of course VERY roughly edited (and short) and I am still going to add graphics and stuff. Just thought I would put something out here and see what you all thought.

Is it newsy looking enough? The actor did a great job I think as your typical no emotional connection anchor.

THANKS for your comments!

Yes, that was newsy. In fact, with insert footage it will look perfect. Dude looks like ana nchor and read his lines perfectly.

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

Yeah, good audio, and good distance from the anchor. Looks good.

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

OK cool. Thanks guys! Kent Brockman? Who is that? I don't watch much news so...

Actually in that take Shannon blew into mic lav during the word "bacteria" so i had to snag that from a different take. I am guessing you wouldn't really notice unless I told you?

Also since I just got my DVX like a week ago I didn't know how to adjust the volume so I had to really boost it in premiere. Ugh! Rookie mistakes!

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

ahhhhhhhh ok. gotcha (brockman).

we were going for that extreme lack of any honest emotional attachment that news people have to the stories they are reading. the film isn't funny at all, this is the only "dark humor" that will be in it, and again this will be playing in the background so its one of those if people overhear what he's saying hopefully i will just steal a couple of those "what the hell?" moments from them...

i will post the whole news sequence (i am also going to attempt and do my first blue screen for the weather) when i finish chopping it.

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

For some reason, it stopped about 1/3 the way through. Both times it stopped and said 38% buffered.

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

sorry about that magicdavek,

try it again today. i just hit it on a different pc then what i normally use and it came through no problem.....hmmmmm.

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

Maybe it's me. I'm running Window Media, Mac OSX version. This time it stopped at "Buffering 27%."

From as much as I can see (the first 8-10 seconds of the narrator), it seems quite "newsy."

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

yeah people with MACs have had problems in the past with WMV clips. once i get the whole sequence done i will do it in QT. NO ONE has QT troubles, always MS messing with people. thanks for your comments on the first seconds however, he he.

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

Generally, Window's Media clips play okay, but not always. Sounds like you're a MS hater. I know there's a lot of that out there. I'm a Mac person with generally positive feelings about MS (except when they use monopolistic business practices). But their cooperation with the Mac platform helps make the world go around for us Mac people and I appreciate that. I constantly use Office on my Mac at home and my PC at work.
Anyway, I'll be eager to see it when it's ready on Quicktime.

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

Like and idiot, I didn't think to try it on my PC at work! So I tried it, and I must have an old copy of Windows Media Player. It says that some element was missing and wouldn't play the clip. I have no control over upgrades on this computer, so I'll wait to see it at home on QT.

Re: 100A footage - is it "newsy"?

he he. no, im not anti-pc actually. i only use PCs. but i did consider getting a MAC for my future editing station for about 5 seconds.

but anyhow, i have just always gotten a complaint from time to time for other clips that i have posted on my website from MAC users (if the files are WM).
