My boy James is screening his short "Poetry Man" starring Peter Greene and invited us to screen our teaser for "10 Crack Commandments" on Sunday Oct. 25th at 7pm over at SVA's new theater on 23rd street between 8th and 9th ave. You can't miss it. Its the only theater on the block. Food and drink afterwards.
Thanks for all the people that came out. We almost filled a 500 seat theater and the responses were amazing. I felt like I was going to throw up at first but the applause at the end gave me the biggest high. All the comments we got from people we knew and didn't know made it feel like we are on the right track with this and we can't wait to finish shooting so we can release a solid trailer. The people who doubted that we were making a great looking film changed their minds and let us know tonight. I even got to experience someone talking about me to me not realizing that I was he. Heh, that was weird.
The Canon 5D footage held up very nicely on the big screen too. It was a legit sized theater so I was worried the 5D would fall apart up there but dang it was sweet. We are getting the 7D tomorrow and see whats up with that. The RED stuff...not much to say but DAYUMMMMM!!!
Got another day in the can. We did another push in scene where someone comes looking for some money owed and gets their ass kicked. Of course we did it the "GO HARD" style we have been running with and had them really beat up the crack head. The first take the pistol whipping got a little to carried away and dude got some major lumps on his head plus when he gets pulled out of the closet he goes head first into the opposite wall. Ouch. On top of that...getting Tims kicked into your back for a few hours can't feel good either but the guy took it like a champ. Will have some BTS of that later.
Thanks. We just have 5 scenes left. We had 3 but I checked out 2 of the scenes that were shot after I was hurt and they have to be recast. The actors didn't work for the scenes. The others we have to wait til the snow it gone. We started planning our next shoot and then poof... all this snow again. :/
Just saw this thread after hitting new post button.
If the movie is half as good as the grabs you are gonna blow up!
With your connections with the people, red + eye I'm really looking forward to see this, see it come to life, see how it will play out.
You or your writer may know this, but its very cool that the structure your using is a varation on La Ronde which is the name of a play, movie, and the type of structure itself, named after the play which has a circular structure (if I remember correctly). Blue Room on Broadway was based on the La Ronde too. But it's basically ten vignettes where the lover in one vignette becomes the lover in the next vignette. For pure La Ronde the character in the last scene meets the character in the first scene that didn't move on. So using letters as characters its basically:
A&B
B&C
C&D
D&E
E&F
then
F&A
I think festivals will love this anyway because it tells the stories of persons of color (rather than a bunch of mumbling white 20 somethings) and tells an urban story (authentically judging from the grabs) but researching and talking about the variation on the La Ronde structure might give it added oomph and appeal to festivals because it's such a classic, literary structure and I don't think it's ever been applied to urban drama. I do have a partial draft for a zombie outbreak though, where you follow the infection rather than the main character. I may finish it and do it one day. The idea was that it would be like doing 6 15 minute shorts with short term commitments on locations and actors, so you could maybe do it on a shoe string.
Anyway, looks really good. Looking forward to teaser / trailer.
