10" 1024x600 monitor with battery and HDMI input for your upcoming GH2, $130 only

Nevermind. I realized that the HDMI port on the monitor is so deeply recessed, that it wasn't making a complete connection. I trimmed about 1 millimeter of plastic off my HDMI cable with an Exacto knife to expose more metal, and now it works fine.

Good, always nice to have a simple solution that works. How are you finding the monitor? Is it using a glossy panel?

BTW, apart from a lot of expensive (ish) and commonplace 7"& 8" HDMI monitors on aliexpress (Lilliputs etc), I did also find a cheaper 8" media player with HDMI for $90 that seems to be similar to the 10" screen, and they have a free shipping option using Hong Kong airmail (checked US and UK). At least it says 'HDMI input' in the feature overview, but doesn't mention in the full specs, so it could also be a typo (I've emailed them to check).

There's also an 10.2" Android tablet that claims to have HDMI input, but I bet they mean 'output' (why would a tablet have HDMI in?).

.. oh yeah, they also claim the 8" screen is "High quality digital 8" LCD: 1280x768 high resolution." That would be full 720p (16:10 format)!

If that's true and with HDMI in, this could be the ideal screen (as long as the panel is decent).

Upsides:

"And the goods will be Marked as "gift" or "sample" for your easy customs clearance and less charge."
:)

Downsides:

"3.Monitor settings may vary between different CCFL and LED screens and may distort actual colors and size."

That could mean they have firmware bugs that incorrectly stretches 16:9 input to 16:10 (and/or maybe can't show 4:3 correctly). I could live with that but it would be annoying.

Looks pretty suspicious.
First, they use Konsta's pictures (actual thing is pretty ugly and bad image is available in other listing).
I do not see any mention of HDMI input inside listing.
As for CCFL and LED note - all current screens are LED, so do not look at this.

I think that they don't have HDMI input.

Yes, that's why I emailed them to confirm.

The important word is "size", which may refer to aspect ratios not being rendered correctly, or with unwanted overscan. Lots of cheap displays do that.

".. and may distort actual colors and size."

There are 5 listings of the 8" player by the same company, and they use different pictures.

This one shows a white version on the box (last picture):

This white one is actually on on Ebay - again they mention HDMI in the title, but the listing claims that it has no HDMI output, and I can't see an HDMI port on the pictures. So could all be BS but I've emailed them.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GADMEI-HDMI-MP4-Digital-Player-8-1280-768-LCD-1080P-/110616194689 - it is just PMP player. Cheap 720p model, without HDMI input.
They also have better US-P82 model.
But both are players.
This alibaba seller looks like some kind of scam, as all his products use photos from other sellers.
Or this is just some strange reseller.

This is listing with more details -

So, it only has simple component output and no inputs.

Got some news today from manufacturer.

They plan to make small amount of monitors specially for us.
It'll have enchanced battery, no TV tuner and other unnecessary functions.
EDID will be improved.
May be small other firmware fixes.
They now looking for good and cheap 10" LED LCD panel.

I just had a reply from the alibaba seller, they insist their 8" has HDMI in. I'll ask them for the photos to check:

"elma xu: Thank you for your inquiry, I hope I can send you all of our 8'' player's photos with all sides. And we also produce 9inch PMP.But by here, I don't how to send you. Hope you can give me your message just your email is OK. All your question I will answer you as the following. You can add my TM \ MSN or SKYPE, I can help online.

Q:1) Does it really have an HDMI input (not output), so you can connect cameras etc to it?
A: Of course, it is HDMI input

Q:2) Is the panel really true 1280x768 native resolution?
A:Yes, it is true 1280*768 high resolution

Q:3) Is the panel surface reflective (glossy)? Ideally it would be trans-flective (for viewing outdoors), but a matte screen would be OK too (glossy/shiny surface would be bad).
A:All our Panels are glossy, we must see the clear pictures, we must need glossy panels. And this question, I cann't understand clearly. We are the same panel as our note book computer.

Q:4) What is the maximum brightness of the panel?
A:200cd/m2

Q:5) How long would the battery last when using the HDMI input continuously, at full brightness?
A:More than 3 hours, the battery is 2800AMH.

Q:6) What are the dimensions?
A:57.2x37.5x39.2cm "

I had discussion with this seller.
To conclude, it is 8" GIMEI player without any HDMI.
They also have 7" player with HDMI output.
Seller initially thought that component output is HDMI input. It speaks for itself :-)

Happy New Year, Mr. Chan.

Thank you for looking into addressing our DSLR needs. If you can accomplish this for under $200 on a 10" 720p capable screen then I will certainly consider buying one, as would many others no doubt. Good luck.

Ragnar

As I said, I need something smaller. As 720p 8" panels seems to exist (and sell cheaply with those media players), that would work better for me.

Pls be care of HDMI input, some sellers on aliexpress follow my word, actually they only have HDMI jack to out put .

Yes you're right. I meant that 8" 720p resolution panels are available, and that they can't be too expensive as the media players that use them sell for a reasonable price. So I would love to see you manufacture an 8", 7" or even 5.6" 720p screen with HDMI input.

As Vitaliy said, 10" is great when you want other people to view the screen too - but it's too big if you want to mount it directly on your camera rig. Smaller is better for this.

This becomes even more important for a hand-held camera rig, which many people use.
