1.21 Firmware Update...

Did anyone ever get a straight answer from Panny on the worth of the 1.21 firmware update? Searches have turned up zilch for moi!

With such vagueness and ambiguity in the press release I never bothered. Especially with their apparent lack of 64 bit support.

I wonder if they've lost some interest or enthusiasm in the 150, and the customers who purchased them?

I believe the most usable fix was the ability for the cam to recognize Class 10 cards. The 150 is pretty much end-of-life now and I agree, the lack of 64-but support is very annoying.

Has there been any update to this? I just ordered the AC adapter for my camera to run the newest update from 1.19, but all of my computers at the office and at home are 64 bit. Thanks.

Just wanted to add a note that I upgraded my firmware to 1.21 after ordering the AC adapter from SpecComm. Very happy to be able to use my cache of Class 10 cards now, went off without a hitch on XP 32 bit.

"Luckily" the computers at work are all running XP- and we're not likely to see any technology upgrades for a while- so the firmware updates aren't a problem. Hopefully a 64 bit version of the firmware updates will start popping up so I can update at home...

I have windows 7 64bit and I updated just fine. I did not even know that it was not supposed update. But yes the class 10 cards are very nice to use.

Does anyone know if new HMC-150 cameras will come with this FW installed? Just ordered two, and have class 10 cards coming as well...

what is the problem with class 10 cards?
Have just bought a new hmc-150, and use a class10 card. It seem to work fine, but my video is a bit strange. When viewing it in VLC, I get the interlaced stripes, which i never did with any other footage even though it was interlaced.
And my premiere CS5 seems unable to export the footage.
Extremely annoying and a bit surprising as some footage i did with an AC-160 didnt have these problems at all...
Could this have anything to do with this?

Best regards
Lars

Nothing whatsoever. The HMC150 works fine with Class 10 cards, assuming you have updated the firmware. The original HMC150 firmware was released before there even were such things as Class 10 cards, so when those appeared, the HMC150 didn't know how to work with them. If your Class 10 card worked in the HMC150, that means its firmware must have already been updated.

Sounds like you just shot in interlaced mode or something.

Yes, you were right.
I put VLC to deinterlace, and then the playback was fine. Curiously though I never had to do that before with interlaced footage.
And my premiere output also worked after i changed some settings, with some great result, so I am happy again!

Just thought I'd post my experience. Issue was Panasonic AG-HMC150 or AG-HMC155 and mysteriously wouldn't read my larger, 16gb, 32gb or 64gb Sd HC Cards. (spelling all this out so it gets picked up in searches)
On this forum I found that I apparently needed to update my firmware. So how to do that?

In the camera itself, press "menu", scroll up once to "Other Functions", or down a couple of screens if you'd rather. Next I scrolled up to System Info, press enter and select "Yes" and your version number should pop up. As of this writing, the latest version is 1.21-00-0.00

Today I found the link for downloading the latest at: https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/soft/upghmc150_e.htm

Download that and you will have to install it on a non 64 bit machine such as Windows XP 32bit or otherwise or especially otherwise if you're on a Mac. Don't plug in the camera yet as it will instruct you as to what to do.

After you've plugged it in to a USB port, you'll be instructed to turn camera off, take out the SD card and leave the SD Card window open. Then you'll have to turn camera back on while holding down on the handle record button (on top). The camera screen will be black but then the update will begin and you'll see that on the computer screen.

Mine only took between 5-10 minutes to update the firmware.

Turn the camera off, unplug and you're done.

Not that tough to do and if I would have had these notes, it wouldn't have been a bit scary...I think.

Let me know how it works out!

For the record and disclaimer...this has been my experience and how it worked for me. I take no responsibility if for some reason your results are different than mine or cause any difficulty. Please take any precautions to protect your equipment, data hardware or projects.
