5B; one of my favourites so far.
Although I agree that it was predictable, 5B was still VERY fun to watch. A complete joy in fact. Comments made by others aren't out of place though, i.e. the fact that the ending isn't scary as the ghost is sympathetic. But this changed little in my viewing pleasure, and that this is a good short, well executed.
It really goes to show that a [horror] movie doesn't have to be blood and guts to be good.
Some other entries go for gore only, whereas 5B does it with wit, good dialogue, directing and other talent.

Kudos to all involved!

5B

Ok first of all, loved what you did with the intro, one of the best in here, very pro....

I also loved your lighting skills. They worked wonders for me and my viewing pleasure in this....I was really drawn in this story. Editing was smooth and worked fine.

The sound was a bit off (again-pay me 10$ each time i say this)...but I enjoyed the fact that you used most of your footage sound rather than go post with it....

The girls were GREAT!! GREAT! I thought for a minute that the black girl was over reacting a bit but when i saw the end it was justified to play like that.

You set up the scenes very nicely and I didnt get bored not one bit. I didnt really expect the plot twist so I was very happy with that.

Not sure about the flame at the end credits though...something is off there....maybe if you did flames at the bottom bar and have the credits roll out on fire....just an idea...

And something else...up til the point the girl walks out after they played with the board...it felt as though you pushed the story in FFW to reach the 6minute....you could have used more time with the news clips and the candles and make it more creepy...just found it too fast...

However one of the complete productions in here

Wow, I'm glad you guys are liking it. I was hating it and didn't want to submit at one point.
Edgen definity helped it with the sound cues and Mark helped come up with the ending which works better than the other we had.
We didn't spend much time on any aspect of the film since we had to make sure we made it as simple as possible so we can get it done in the little time we left ourselves. The great thing about last minute things is that you get to work out production flow kinks and every project after goes so much smoother. I don't think we spent more than 10-15 hours total without rendertimes on this.
I think the girls did a great job on this because they are distracted teens and of course when you use the sister and friends to hold boom and my lightstick its hard to get them to stop playing around and laughing. :) It was all fun though.
The pratical effects were fun too, the Ouija board was a magnet trick like someone mentioned and the mouse just had a black string tied to it and we hid it in the shadow of the mouse cord. The candle lighting was a simple after effects thing with footage of them on and off and an animated mask. That took about half hour to shoot and composite.
Taina(ghost) was supposed to be over the top, in your space acting to get a sense of shes weird but we don't know why. Of course you guys are figuring it out early but that was the plan anyway.
Hope the rest of you enjoy our little flick and keep the comments coming.

Oh thank GOD you got rods for that beast35 i mean Brevis 35........ lol ;)

I love this movie. Pure cinema. SOOOO simple youre like, "why didnt i think of that first" then you realise youre not brilliant enough to come up with a story that streamlined.

I had those for a while, they came with it. I just don't use them. I put them on this time because I was using the cheap tripod to shoot because the big one was too heavy for me to move.

Thanks! You are being too kind. But I love it. Yummmmm.

Script
It was kinda predictable, but that's forgivable. Dialogue was nowhere awkard or something so that's good.

Acting
The scene downstairs felt very awkard with the one girl a bit overacting like those soap actors do :p Further into the movie it became better.

Cinematography
The lighting of actors looked kinda weird here (maybe my pc I dont know), but the rest seemed good enough.

Editing
No real complaints about the editing :) only one time a "scare" sound was a bit late. I already saw the image and then came the sound, so the effect of the sound was not there.

Score
Good. It sets the mood and thats what it's supposed to do.

Overall Impressions

There is only a short bit of time to work with and unfortunately it's quite hard to win the viewer back if they don't like the beginning. And that's what happened to me. The beginning put me off, but I do think the last part shows potential.

Hope to see more movies from you in the next fests.

I hope you saw the MP4 version. If not here it is. The .mov is too dark.

You know, about that sound being off. I wasnt sure if it was or not. I thought I was just watching it too many times. But yeah, if you felt it then it must have been off.
Thanks for commenting. :)

nice work - i like the movie.

the lighting was great - nothing looked flat or amatuerish there was very good modeling of the actors' faces.

the acting was a little too over the top for me, but it worked.

regarding the story - it was pretty predictable but still fun to watch.

this kind of twist has been done before, and in the movies i've seen where it's been the most effective there are SUBTLE clues laid out that really make the payoff at the end feel right. they make you want to watch it again and find the clues.

i almost felt like you were going for a comedy (the winking, over acting) rather than horror- by making fun of this kind of twist. it almost had a "scary movie" type feel to it where they totally make fun of the genre.

also, nice after effects work for the computer and intro.

Aram,

Great job. I liked the actors so much. They were so entertaining. I couldn't decide if this was a comedy or a scary flick. In the end I would have to say this film would be categorized as a "Goosebumps" type nickelodeon horror tale for children. That's something to be proud of I think. As far as all out horror it just didn't nail me to the wall.

The production looked great. Edgen's score was fitting and drove the story along well. I enjoyed this film. Thanks.

YES! Goosebumps all the way!!!!!

I think the acting rocked on this.

*****SPOILER***********

I think the ghost girl was spooky because she was so over the top. her eyes did a great job conveying the almost desperation to be connected and yet the anger at what happened. I liked the lighting, and flow of the story! Good stuff!!!!

Thanks you guys. We are totally happy you are enjoying this and the kids are really loving it. Thanks to everyone taking their time to watch and comment. Hopefully this will help me get them more into film making :)

Helllo Aram,

I just have to say that I think that your film is one of the best lit films I've seen. It is so robust and glorious with so little light.

I enjoyed your story and felt that it moved along at a nice pace.

The girls did a great job and I found their performance very believable.

I loved the use of the 35mm adapter. It works so well in your film. I can't wait to start using one!!!

I loved the framing of the film. I loved the use of the candles and candle holder in the framing.

I really felt that you told a complete story and I never felt lost or confused.

Really, a great job and an enjoyable film!

Thanks for making it and sharing it with us all.

Congrats!

Ted

You da magic man. Howd your zombie fest short go in the Coney island film fest?
We got approached by a Boston film fest to enter and they would waive the fee. We got a nice response from the audience too. I thought this film was done but I guess its still going to be going. This will be the 5th fest its made. Go figure.
I felt out of place because everyone had these gloosy cards for their film and at the party last night I asked Mark if this was the norm and he said he always has cards. I wished I would have asked him a day or two before. He also came to the screening and we went to the famous Totonnos Pizza after. Our next short is going to be more for other fests this time, it was great to hear the applause after it ended. I love these DVX fests but theres something about that applause that I love.

You know what that movie is..... its one of thoes pieces that YOU only see the flaws but everyone else thinks is Brilliant. I think its brilliant. And so does anyone i've shown it too.

A shout out from Weehawken.

Hey we love you Brooklyn guys. This short is great, doesn't take itself too seriously, we really enjoyed the comic element. The editing especially at the climactic close is great. The girls were very believable and just plain real.

Two thumbs up from Erik & Joan
