Have you ever had this be stuck as your choice for a crew member or actor?

Say you had your film lined up, but you can't hire the people you want. You are then stuck with people who have multiple felony convictions, am very hostile to others, and having mental issues. Would you take the opportunity to hire such people for your cast and crew if they are really good at...

Be an artist that goes unnoticed

My idea on being an artist is based on writers like Philip K. Dick and artists like Vincent Van Gogh, and to me I think maybe it'll help if we learn from them. Essentially as filmmakers we constantly wish our films will make it and we'll be thrown out of our current situations, but it may never...

Question about the film industry, is this possible?

Is it possible to just work doing freelance work making videos, collecting cameras, and knowing a lot about it, but be stuck being a PA, an extra, and a writer. When you make your dream film you expect you yourself to direct it but your only chance of it getting made is if you are kept out of it...

    Advice for Amateurs, Be Adaptive

Unless of course we are Howard Hughes, you have to be adaptive as a filmmaker. Variables change left and right and budgets change up and down. You could be given a budget of 5 million and then your executive producer shows up and says, "Well the studios wanted to cut it down to 500,000." Be...

I think I'll struggle in film school [vent]

Film school when it comes to simple art rules, are extremely strict on them. Like the idea of an independent film or a micro budget film or even someone from the middle class making a film doesn't fly by them for some reason. People don't think young people being filmmakers being directors don't...

    EOS: Rate my camera rig

Oh it's very well balanced. The rig I have is able to take on all the weight of the T2i and battery pack. Not front heavy at all. Good news is that I did the math of weight distribution of the rig and it looks all fine and dandy. Added, I only have this and a tripod. I do freelance work.

As someone who is close to 30 and realizing he is severely behind the several young directors out there. My question to you all is that dream of you being the world famous filmmaker who surpassed their peers in middle school, did that dream ever come true for you for you now as an adult in their...

Guardians of the Galaxy > Star Wars > Star Trek

You miss my point. While GOTG's plot is simplistic, it's beautifully more character driven than the other films.

    Advice on Writing Controversial Stories?

Right now we live in a political environment that unless someone bans automatic rifles, there's bound to be some fear of writers with mental conditions writing controversial material. These include topics like violence, sex, drugs, dark themes, depression, and a whole lot of others. So action...

Guardians of the Galaxy > Star Wars > Star Trek

I may be the only one to say this, but personally to me Guardians of the Galaxy was a much better space opera than Star Wars and Star Trek combined. Mainly because of how relatable and human the characters are. Marvel did a good job making that series. Guardians of the Galaxy essentially was...

How can you control your breathing on Camera?

Sound is just as important as the image when filming. The issue I have though is that at times when I don't realize it I do a lot of heavy breathing. I'm good with a camera, but I want to be careful with my heavy breathing so that I don't screw up the sound, any tips?

Is EQ more Important than IQ in the Film Industry?

Note I did not advocate in beliving in IQ or EQ makes a person smart or dumb. I'm just using the phrases relatively. I do not condone or approve of the mean awful and cruel bullying done on people who do not have a certain IQ score. Anyway, relatively speaking is EQ more important than IQ in...

the 3 main parts of why your camera is expensive.

The reason why a digital camera may cost thousands of dollars has to do mainly with these three main parts and everything else is added onto it. This is obvious to some cinematographers. *The image processor *The image sensor *The CPU in the camera *And in some cases, the cache Those parts on...
