FCP 4.5 / G5/ XL2 as deck for monitoring. Any ideas why FCP can't find the cam?

Will the XL2 footage look better than the quicktime codec if captured with a Decklink HD Pro card?

I go to block buster and rent Amelie. The image looks amazing on even an old CRT TV monitor. I'm not going to talk in terms of resolution because it begins to confuse me, pardon my ignorance.
