The Background is a Hotel Hottub lit with underwater bulb 100watt?

Foreground was lit w the 580 ex flash set to manual with a -1 flash burst output, Angled at 70 deg.

The cam was at ISO 400 Shutter 1/250 Aperture f/5.6

I remember about 7 or 8 years ago thinking that it would take forever for digital to equal film.

For stills (in my opinion) film is dead.

You sure don't need me to say it, but I will anyway... STUNNING photos kp. I love the first pic, but the saturation in the wave of the third pic is freakin' me out.
 
Well, to be fair, a 4X5 photograph should be compared to at least a medium format digital camera. (And the comparison I saw put large format only slightly above medium format digital, surprisingly, although price is obviously an issue since leaf backs cost so much.)

Comparing a 5D to 35mm film (a fairer comparison), there seems to be little advantage to 35mm film...maybe a little extra dynamic range in the highlights. Then again, the 5D is far more expensive, but also does not have any processing or film costs.
 
Some of the images I shoot are comprised of about 5-6 frames. At 12.8mp each, I'm sure print quality and detail will be quite amazing. Never used 4X5, so I really don't know.
 
From what I have seen the best mid format digital backs (almost 40 Mpix) are ALMOST as good as 4x5 film. The quality bottleneck is the lens; in 4x5 the "sensor" a.k.a. film size is really 4x5 inches. In mid format digital backs the sensor size is less than about 1.5x2 inches. The sensor is sharper than equal surface area of film, but the resolving power of the lenses is not good enough to beat the 4x5.

For anything up to glossy magazine spreads this makes no difference. For huge posters maybe.

35mm and 120 film ARE dead.

Wow. These are great. The first picture and the third are pretty jaw dropping. Did you color correct these are they straight from the camera?

Everything I post will be color corrected. Not that the camera isn't totally capable. It's just that it doesn't have a "Kprince's Imagination" setting. Thanks for looking!
