Well, CRTs sure make everything look nicer, especially noise-wise. And lots of us are used to optimizing our video for CRT display.
However, in HD, it doesn't look likely that we can hold the CRT as the standard that we adjust images to. Doesn't look like they'll be the dominant technology in...
Anyone have any experience with the Gateway FPD2185W?

Looks like an interesting alternative to the Dell 2405. Has component inputs, some fancy Faroudja processing, and a much lower pricetag!
Also, I played...
Ok...
Everyone who hangs on every word I've ever posted (you know who you are - or aren't...) know that shortly before we had HVX specs I was asking if anyone knew of ANY camera that had an AE setting that aimed to prevent ANY blowouts at all, rather than worrying about overall exposure. For...
Hi gang...
I've just returned from the Moviola event, which was fun and informative... and revealed a potential large problem for some (potential) HVX users...
A number of the presenters and others present have recommended that P2 cards should NEVER be imported into Final Cut Pro on a G4-based...
Hey guys, this has already sorta been mentioned in some thread, but I thought it deserved a bit of it's own thread to add to the confusion and hullabaloo.
In a 4 camera test performed today, it seems, the HVX was clocked at 750 lines of horizontal resolution, better than HD100 (725) and closer...
Just out of curiosity, a question to the HVX dealers who have taken deposits:
Do you guys have any that limits your ability to hold a deposit for more than a certain length of time? Let's say, due to some major problem, the HVX doesn't ship for 3 months? 6 months? A year? What is the point at...
Sorry if this is improper, but I'm reposting this from the end of a long thread, ;cause i think it's worthy of beginning a new one, and I imagine many folks might be interested in the answers...
Basically, discussion here has all pointed to download times of around 1GB/minute from P2 to a...
Can anyone enlighten us on the main differences between monitoring via a dedicated HD card (e.g., Kona) and monitoring via traditional computer display outputs (DVI or VGA port)?
A monitor such as the Dell 2405, e.g., handles both types of inputs; so do many current HDTVs. However, it seems...
Well, I'm just sorta curious about the big rectangular lens cap illustrated in the manual... I've never seen one in pictures. Anyone with a camera wanna post an image?
Hey, reading the manual, I see it's changed from the version I saw at DVExpo.
It seems it's now possible to record through the XLRs as line inputs on channels 3 and 4 while also recording through the built-in mics, with gain control, on channels 1 and 2.
Certainly a much better situation than...
Take with whatever grains of salt you'd like...
A Panny rep here at CES, standing around by a very lonely unnoticed HVX, told me today that he had been told that so far, 68 HVX's have shipped...

If I remember correctly, Jan said at DVExpo that before re-use, a P2 Card must be reformatted in-camera. Or, at least, erased in-camera. This was said to be "pretty instant".
Given frequent discussion and workflow diagrams, I assume that the P2Store can perform the same formatting/erasing...
Well, my main thing to find out today was about the 4-channel audio. Who cares about poixel counts, sensitivity, 42" Plasma? I want 4 uncompressed channels.
Sadly, the news was personally disappointing to me... I'm not knocking the camera, for which I'm clearly not the target market... but...
Sorry if it's a stoopid question, but I've been busy and searchin' hasn't helped. So: what's the schedule for exciting HVX events at DVExpo? Secret DVXUser-only sessions? And where're the good parties?
(Sorry; thought I'd repost here in hope of response)
Well, I've been going under the assumption that storage requirements for a multi-angle video track are something like:
size of video angle 1 + size of video angle 2 + size of audio 1 + size of audio 2
(for 2 video angles and 2 audio...
Well, I've been going under the assumption that storage requirements for a multi-angle video track are something like:
size of video angle 1 + size of video angle 2 + size of audio 1 + size of audio 2
(for 2 video angles and 2 audio tracks).
However, when multiplexing, the result is coming...
I'll have to expand on this later, since I won't have a chance to play with it for a few hours... but for anyone worried, I indeed received the device in the mail today. It exists, looks a little nicer than in the pdfs... now has markings and a better-matching indicator/hard stop.
Joel, if you...
DISCLAIMER: There are some situations where I need to use autoexposure, so please understand that I avoid this problem with manual exposure whenever possible.
When using autoexposure/autoiris, I can never seem to find a setting that prevents blown-out highlights completely. If I have a small...
