68 Cameras Shipped...

A Panny rep here at CES, standing around by a very lonely unnoticed HVX, told me today that he had been told that so far, 68 HVX's have shipped...

I too, was at CES yesterday, and the only HVX200 in the booth was sitting there, untouched by anyone. I walked up to it (I'm on a waitlist, so any interaction eases the pain...) and started going through menus. The thing was set to 1080i, hooked up to a blown-out 12" LCD display. I promptly changed to 720p/24 mode and the nearby rep said, "Waiting for one, huh?" I said, "Yep, how is shipping going?" He said, "Slow. Reeeeaaallly slow." I said, "How many have been shipped to the states so far?" "I dunno, less then a hundred?" He didn't sound like he really knew what was going on. I'm sure it's higher than that.

Whoa.

Not sure if it's true, but my sales guy here in LA said he received 'far fewer' than expected.

At any rate, the camera at CES was quite lovely to at least interact with. Can't wait to get mine.
I will consider delivery of this camera like 'a fine cheese' or a 'fine wine'. It will just bet that much better with age. :)

No, really... does it matter how many have gone out? Regardless of if it's 10 or 1,000, we still don't have ours. Rush, can you bribe them harder please?
 
I hope you people waiting for cams are fine tuning your scripts. Last thing I want to see when the big motherload drops is screengrabs.

What I was alluding to in my reply is that she obviously knows the answer, just like she knows the pixel count of the CCDs. But complaining about it isn't going to get her to give them up any sooner. We've tried. :p

First thing I've got planned with the HVX is a small feature in March Issac! We're already halfway through preproduction... and since the camera will be a personal investment, we don't have to budget a single penny for camera rental, stock, developing, processing, or telecine this go around. It's huge. Honestly, I can't wait.

Of course, I have no idea how I'm going to share a short HD feature with everyone over the internet, but I digress... :)

Bittorrent. Easiest way to share bandwidth and not max out people's servers.
 
When I first heard about bit torrent, I couldn't give a rat's ash. My brother made me take another look into it and I gotta tell ya, what a wonderful new method of sharing files, especially big ones. I still don't know jack shee ite about it, but it seems like the more you share, the more you benefit in bandwidth. I really like it, but the people who abuse it and contribute to piracy will probably end such a cool idea.
 
Yeah, I admit, I'm pretty ignorant of bit torrent too. I don't pirate files and the sharing I've done in the past has been easily accomplished through AIM or by uploading a file to my server and having people download it. If someone is dying to explain to me how the whole bit torrent thing works over a PM, I'm more than game to try it out. Of course the film isn't going to be finished for a few months...
 
I was at CES too and visited Panny at Center Hall, LVCC. I asked several folks working the floor if they even knew of the HVX200 and they were clueless. Big company, lots of products, folks on the floor and press relations were most definitely not helpful. I actually didn't even find the HVX200 or it wouldn't have been so lonesome.

At least I have the online manual to look at now. That's as close as I'm going to get until the production line starts to flow.

ok, im reallyyyy worried about this topic... just think about it.. I LIVE IN MEXICO!!!..
so... if you guys that live in the Unites States dont have a clue about HVX200 in stock somewhere somehow.. anywhere.. just imagine how i feel here in my town, with out notices about it.

pleaseeee if you know ANYTHING about this HEROIC reseller providen HVX 200 camcorders... pleaseeeee.. write me to my email adress.. pleaseee..

im in hurry because my clients aprove me this budget shooting at HD 720p,
and i have a death line... is April 16th!!! so.. im kind of desesperate..

is a great oportunity to buy it... i don know what a hell are Panasinic doing with
that marketing idea... is not working!!!... just RELASE de f.... camara... is not fun
at all... here some guys we work for living!!.. we need de f... camara. IS NOT FUNNY Panasonic crew!!!

If JVC´s , Canon´s or Sony´s cams would perform like Panasonic´s HVXs, beliveme..
you would lose a cosumer allready.

Seems easy to say what the "right" number is then, what with her being the Panasonic Broadcast & TV Systems Product Manager, DVCPRO50/25, AG-DVX100B, AG-HVX200.

I'll bet she does . . . so what? There must be (IMHO) more intelligent issues we can discuss here . I honestly don't give a goat's pajamas how many have been shipped--then again, maybe someone will write a book about it and quit crapping up the space in this forum.

I hope you (all) get yours really quickly, I'm looking forward to receiving mine . . . that's really the only one I care about getting shipped. The negativity??? Take it outside!

well said dregenthal.. im pretty frikin tired of this crap over and over and over again.. I think everyone now is aware that there was not enough cameras shipped to make everyone and thier dog happy... so lets move on.

Ola Senior.. the camera is released.. so dont worry, its not being delayed. They are just not shipping enough to put up with the incredible demand, and there was some confussion to how big the first shipment was supposed to be.
