Hey, reading the manual, I see it's changed from the version I saw at DVExpo.
It seems it's now possible to record through the XLRs as line inputs on channels 3 and 4 while also recording through the built-in mics, with gain control, on channels 1 and 2.
Certainly a much better situation than it seemed at DVExpo! All we need to do now is calibrate a level to feed the unmetered 3 and 4 inputs, and we can record fairly useful 4-channel sound....
Thanks to anyone who had a hand in this, and I'm looking forward to trying it out...

PS, I guess the metering problem could be solved (at least for pre-shooting sound check) by swithing the line-ins to 1 and 2 to set levels on the outboard gear...
