As of July 29 (and in some cases, July 15), there is new firmware for several Panasonic cameras. These include every version of the S5, the S9, GH7, G9M2, G100D, GH5M2 and G97. Go to this page to find more information and download the firmware update...
Panasonic will have a live announcement for a new camera (or more?) at 2pm US Eastern Time on May 13. This is the link to see the live announcement:
Panasonic has given no clues to what this announcement might be, but the buzz is that it will be an L-mount cinema camera. And it might be more...
Panasonic recently rolled out firmware updates for several mirrorless cameras. Here is the page for the affected full-frame cameras: https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/index4.html
And this is the page for the updated Micro Four Thirds cameras (GH7 and G9m2)...
So far, I've only seen this on Panasonic's US online store: The GH7 plus the P/L 12-60mm lens and the XLR2 audio adapter for US$2,800. Here's a screen grab:
I'm not interested at that price, but perhaps it is the start of some really good offers on the GH7. Here is the link to Panasonic's...
We got a Panasonic G9M2 camera to complement my GH6, so I had to test the G9M2 with an external flash drive plugged into the camera's USB-C port. It works exactly like it does in the GH6 (the G9M2 is basically a GH6 Lite), so I made a video showing how to use a flash drive as external memory for...
I was looking at cameras on Amazon today, and noticed that the cost for a GH6 is about $150 more than the cost of a GH7:
I looked on B&H Photo, and it shows the GH6 as "discontinued" and the GH7 as $2,200... so it is $200 less for a GH7 on Amazon at the moment. Just some odd news about GH...
In case you missed it, Panasonic released new firmware for the GH6 and three lenses. Since I have a GH6 and one of the lenses (8-18mm), that is good news.
You can find the firmware and update instructions here: https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/index.html
The rumor mill says that Panasonic will announce a new camera on June 5. This same source says that the camera will *not* be a full-frame camera.
Here is a link to a YouTube video discussing this:
I shot a simple project today to demonstrate something for a manufacturer. I figured that recording it at 1080p MP4 was fine to show what I needed to show, so I set my GH6 to MP4/1080p. That's when I saw that the data rate of MP4/1080p is 20Mbps at 29.97 fps, but 24Mbps at 23.98 fps. Obviously...
I didn't see anything about it until now, but Panasonic released updated firmware for some popular MFT lenses. These lenses include versions of Panasonic's 12-60mm, 12-35mm and 35-100mm lenses. Here are the lens models affected:
H-ES12035
H-HSA12035
H-ES12060
H-ES35100
H-HSA35100
H-ES50200...
I shot the eclipse at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania. The sky got clear just as the eclipse started, and more clouds rolled in shortly after totality ended. Thus, I was able to get some good video. The highlight was the last 45 seconds or so of totality, which I shot in 4K using a...
We just got a G9M2 for my wife, who mostly does photography. It is an upgrade from her old GX8, which still works but is now around 8 years old and well-used. My first impression of the G9M2 is that it is smaller than I expected. It is no larger than a GH5, and it is definitely smaller/lighter...
I just recently (as in the last couple of days) learned that there was a free video edit software package called CapCut (https://www.capcut.com/). I apologize in advance if I'm the last one to know about this, but I thought others might not have heard about it. Anyway, CapCut seems pretty...
As of this date, Panasonic has released a firmware update for the GH6. It sounds pretty minor, but you can check it out at the update page: https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/index.html
On Oct. 24, Panasonic released new firmware for the GH6 and GH5Mk2. You can look at the details and download the firmware at https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/index.html
Panasonic reportedly registered two new cameras with an agency in China, using internal manufacturing designations. There is a growing amount of chatter out there that the two cameras might be the GH7 and a G100 Mk2. No one except Panasonic knows, of course. I just wanted to mention this to let...
Today and tomorrow (Oct. 10-11, 2023) is Amazon Prime Day, and Amazon has a great price on the GH5Mk2: US$998. Edit: B&H Photo has it for the same price.
In case anyone has missed it, Panasonic has a new camera announcement scheduled for Sept. 12 at 10AM (eastern time US). The rumor is that it is a new MicroFourThirds camera, and there is a lot of whispering that it will be an updated version of the G9.
Be that as it may, Panasonic has a habit...
Costco had a good price ($70) on a Lexar 1TB SSD, so I got it to use with the GH6. Panasonic has approved only Samsung and SanDisk SSDs for use with the GH6, but the Lexar turned out to be a perfect match -- it recorded video at the GH6's highest speed (1.9 Gbps) without a glitch. And stayed...
