Speaking of, price reduced 12k, likely not permanent:Yeah, definitely hanging in. Also, who knows if Sony will increase prices - at least I’m locked in price wise. Did you see they just increased the price of the fx6 from $6998 to $7298? Crazy given Blackmagic lowering their prices
Saw that. Blackmagic definitely helping out low budget filmmakers... Blackmagic and Nikon are smart with their timing given the fx5 delays. They will definitely lure some people away...Speaking of, price reduced 12k, likely not permanent:

Yeah, I have a buddy with a pyxis 12k and it has a great image, but in terms of how I work a total mismatch.I understand the 6k and other entry level price reductions, but the Pyxis is 12k and fx5 are so far apart in terms of how they approach images. I guess everyone is competing but they seem like opposite ends of the spectrum.
Sorry, maybe you have to be logged in to facebook. Just a guy that bought 3 fx5's in Mexico and all three had the screen issue (unit separating from bezel)I can't see the link...
Not good, I also wonder it it's a sign of things to come with other manufacturers.
Probably purchased at the same time?I wonder why they bought 3!
Geeez...this brings up memories.I was running a Media 100 system back in 2000. The Sydney Olympics took place in 2000. We had just won a production contract for work on that. Upgrade time it was. It was a toss up between Avid and Discreet edit* for us. I went with Autodesk's edit* as it had the option of running with the realtime Truvision hardware card in conjunction with an Abakus 3D hardware DVE card. We also had Combustion running on that suite. That was a $100,000 lease back then. But it paid for itself in 18 months. edit*, with our five machine digital edit suite plus Paintbox, CG, 10 input switcher and BVE 2000 controller were all pretty cutting edge back in 2000. Those were the days. The whole online suite with an experieced editor was billing out at AUD$650 an hour. We also had three offline suites running. We were doing a regular 50 TV shows a year. That was truly a golden era.
Those days seem like they were in another lifetime. Well, I guess they were.
That $3,700 rent you mention. Is that a month or week? Sounds insane for a week. For a month that sounds sort of what I would expect. The last house that went up for rent in our street went for just over AUD$6,000.00 a month, US$4,300.00. Totally insane. I don't know how people are doing it.

Oh yes! T'was a different world, long gone but as you say associated with some great memories and some fun times. Remember this one?Geeez...this brings up memories.
We looked at edit* at a facility I was working at in the late 90's, we didn't go with it but we did have a Discreet Inferno, hardware/software...million bucks. Then a few years later when Discreet introduced Smoke (now mothballed) we got two, hardware/software...$500k a piece. In addition we had two online rooms all Abekas: A83, A57, A72, A66, CMX Aegis...1k an hour to walk in the door, and everything ala carte...need another channel of A72? $200hr...A66? $125hr etc etc.
The salad days...great time to be in the business.
Still running a Flame these days (on an iMac) with a subscription for pennies of what it used to cost, but yet expensive by todays standard...about 5k a year.
I worked the Atlanta Olympics in '96 for AOB, Panasonic supplied all the gear...they introduced a new edit controller and switcher (that none of us knew how to use) and rolled out D3 decks...we might have been the very few people in the world who actually used D3. Panasonic had no DVE so at least they put the Abekas Devous in each of the rooms. There were a lot of issues with the gear/edit bays and their engineering staff spoke very little to any English. We taught them the word "voodoo" so when we had issues (which were often) we would walk down the hall to their office and just say "voodoo"...and they would all nod their heads..."ahhh...voodoo"
I also used that same beta cam (7 head/5 back) you mentioned...I believe ours was about 65K. It cracks me up when I hear people bitching about how expensive gear can be...they have no idea.
Good times!
