For the love of it, I do still photography too and everything you know about light transfers from the still to the motion picture world. Light is light and more importantly, shadows are shadows. In fact, in still photography one so often uses flash that can only be visualized in a photograph...

Is a good sticky on beginning lighting kits. We get so many similar questions from both new and experienced filmmakers that are turning their attention to lighting and want to get some equipment together and hone their skills, and we give so many similar responses, in my mind, it makes sense...
But you might get it going. Has feeder cable and ballast. The price is right for taking a chance on a cleanup or even repair, $100 as I write this.

I have a couple of Ianiro 575W HMIs and they work fine.
Some of you might find this interesting.
It fascinates me that when I walk into a room at night illuminated by incandescents, colors look pretty natural to me. When I walk into that room with daylight streaming through the windows colors look pretty natural to me.

People are always looking for good lights at good prices. I've been buying fixtures on eBay for years with great success.
Right now there are some good looking DeSisti 1K fresnels for sale and in my experience DeSisti hardware is well made, tough and does the job.
The seller is even offering a...
Yah, and see if you can get some art on the walls to break them up and maybe use a practical desk lamp that's warmer for some visual interest. You'll almost surely have a window so see what you can do using the blinds to take light off the wall or get some texture from them. You might be able to...
