Surprised to hear about the overheating in 48p? That screen does look floppy. None of these cameras these days are built anything like an old ENG beast of old.

How do you work your way out of that with firmware? I don't think you do. 1st models are always a bit of a suck it and see exercise. It's all up to whether you want to be on the cutting edge or further out on the bleeding edge. If I was getting one I would rather wait until the public 'beta' testing is over. Having one now or a year down the road with any of these new cameras wouldn't make one iota of difference to my daily workflow. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

I regularly look up release dates of products, if certain items aren't old enough it's an extra consideration.

One (I guess?) good thing about any camera release is the used prices for the previous models. I got the pyxis 6k for $2.5k AUD and am just treating it like an experiment to see if a pyxis 12k could work.

With the fx3/fx5 pricing, it seems like not many will buy the fx3 new, but used is a different story.

lol nice. Older gear comes with its own issues, with discontinued, no more parts etc. It’s definitely work finding the old vs new sweet spots.

Those look to be at least two valid issues that I'd love to see addressed. (floppy screen, camera body separating) It's a big part of why I've been waiting and didn't pre-order the FX5 when it was announced, just to see what popped up.

I remember the C70 floppy screen issues when it first came out and honestly it was a small reason why I didn't go the C70 route. The big reason was that I already owned enough cameras, but I digress....

I don't really mind when camera companies release firmware updates to fix stuff. But if the physical body is having issues, that's very annoying.

Yeah, I think the c70 screen issue was a bit of a black eye for Canon. I bought one used a few months ago and it had the issue. The previous owner never worried about it, but I sent it into Canon and they fixed it for free... I am a little worried about the issues coming up with the fx5 but Sony has a solid track record and I've owned just about every one of their cinema line cameras and they've been problem free.

Yeah, saw this. I really hope Sony sorts this out. Looks like so far there have been issues with fan noise, the screen, IBIS and the body's build quality. Seems like a lot of those affected units were delivered in Europe:

Yes. A pretty well-thought-out and realistic comparison and review. Just a little surprised at the noise levels when shooting without DGO selected. Bearing in mind the DGO is only available at ISO 800. Shown at around 6:35 into the linked video. Other than that for what the camera offers us at that price it's pretty impressive. Will wait to see what a couple of firmware updates bring to the camera. The difference in improvements on the FX6 v3.00 over its release firmware really stepped that camera up. And later updates have brought more significant improvements to the FX6. I anticipate we will see these sorts of progressive improvements on the FX5 for sure. Though October 2027 is a long wait for version 2.0. Judgment still reserved until further notice. (y) :D

Yeah, pretty dramatic difference between DGO on and off. But I think non-DGO mode is about the same or better than the fx3/6. I really hope my unit comes with all of the QC issues worked out...

I trust it does come through fully sorted. As there a feww issues that look like they needed to be sorted out fairly rapidly. This on just cam across my feed.

Yeah, I think that guy is in Mexico. From what I understand a small number of units made their way into non-USA dealers hands and on to customers before Sony could halt shipments. I'm fairly confident that the ones that ship in early to mid-September will not be defective (fingers crossed).

These Sony production issues with the FX5 are giving me some slight flashbacks to earlier Blackmagic pocket cameras. Amazing image quality and processing power, accompanied by some slightly under-whelming camera build quality.

Sony's too big of a company to let this derail a camera that looks to be their new cash cow for the upcoming few years though, so I have no doubt they'll work out the QC issues.
