Preordered without the top handle. From the footage posted it looks like Sony has done some tweaking on their image and looks a bit less digital to me. Thoughts?

Ha ha. I can do no such thing! It looks really cool. @scorsesefan maybe you can make a pledge to dvxuser that you'll stick with this camera for 24 months...
Especially with how good BYO ND is getting, the camera looks amazing.Ha ha. I can do no such thing!
I guess the question is what can it do that my fx6 can't for the type of work that I do. The main draw for me is the ergos, specifically the size which might give me less back aches...Especially with how good BYO ND is getting, the camera looks amazing.
Yeah, agreed. I would like to see some average Joe footage/grades which isn't going to happen until actual production units arrive in people's hands. The real test is filming your dog in the garage, not Gareth Edwards in some exotic locale.Overall, I don't think you'll be happy with the IQ from the camera, even though it'll be exciting and fun to test. It's such a big leap between us grading our own footage vs. the best of the best within the industry doing the grade. Look at the B&H video samples - the mojo has gone again.
I hate screw on ND and have gotten spoiled by the internal of my c70 and especially the auto ND of the fx6.How do you shoot with the fx6?
After you're happy with BYO ND, the ibis and EVF make the package quite compelling.
Pretty cool you can send the camera to Sony for an irreversible lock of the sensor if you don't want any stabilisation.
The DGO is a really intriguing aspect of this camera, but from what I understand it's not a true DGO sensor like the c70/c300 III. It can only be engaged at 800 iso? I'm curious what your thoughts are on the images you're seeing coming out of the fx5 from the perspective of a Alexa/Canon owner? Sony's image (or the work it takes to get a good image) is one of the things that has kept me from wholeheartedly embracing their cameras.I'm not sure why, maybe it's all the hype, but I'm honestly intrigued by this camera.
I've never actually shot Sony really, although I've edited plenty of Sony footage, and I already have an FX5 equivalent (Canon C50), but it's fun to see what they've done with the FX5.
Obviously the Gareth Edwards stuff looks great. Once again a reminder that what you put in front of the camera is so much more important than what camera you shoot on I guess.
But there are a few standout features that I think are worthy of note to me.
The first is the dual gain setting. Having shot on the C300 III in the past, and currently having an Alexa Mini, makes me wonder how good that could look alongside maybe one of those. Obviously the cheapest way to go dual gain at the moment is probably just to get a used C70, but either way, that's a cool feature to me.
I actually really like the FX5 screen implementation as well. I wish Canon had done similarly with the C50.
Have you seen any of the nisi options?I hate screw on ND and have gotten spoiled by the internal of my c70 and especially the auto ND of the fx6.
I haven't found a screw on VND yet that doesn't vignette. If the swift system doesn't I'll take a look at them.Have you seen any of the nisi options?
The swift system with 1-5 stops with a friction mounted 4 stop has been really, really good so far.
But the jetmag system looks like it's emerging as a gold standard, I'd definitely get that instead. I wouldn't even consider any other brands at this point in time for front element ND.
Fx5/lidar/mofage poco II with variable ND would be fantastic for documentary work, if you could make prime lenses work. You'd have to be fine looking through the EVF more though.
Yep, I've seen it's only in certain frame rates and modes that you can engage the DGO. But that's totally fine with me. I'd just use it for interviews/scenics/slower moving stuff. The DGO is a really intriguing aspect of this camera, but from what I understand it's not a true DGO sensor like the c70/c300 III. If I was buying one. haha.
I'll have a look. I'm pretty sure it's all good at 13mm on APS-C on the fuji. I haven't paid attention to vignetting in a while!I haven't found a screw on VND yet that doesn't vignette. If the swift system doesn't I'll take a look at them.
Haha, only if something else I have sells...IF you were buying one![]()
Agreed. I really like my Nisi ND system. By separating the full range into two filters I believe they help eliminate some of the issues that plague some other all-in-one systems. I have zero complaints with mine.It looks very colour accurate (Dustin has one too). Also, the hard 5th stop is excellent, no overshooting back to the least filtration, and no X-pattern at all.
That's the answer, HARD stops!I'll have a look. I'm pretty sure it's all good at 13mm on APS-C on the fuji. I haven't paid attention to vignetting in a while!

I previously had a hoya that might as well have been green piece of glass with an "X" written on it. The nisi has changed my mind completely, you just have to have an extra case, like a tiffen filter pouch, on you at all times. I'd probably go straight to jetmag though, no screws but good magnets.
