MIRRORLESS: Sony A1 II with Thypoch Simera C primes (1st test)

Thypoch Simera C primes are the perfect balance of quality, character, weight, size and cost.

I used my brand new Sony A1 II, in combination with Atomos Ninja Ultra, to get the highest quality possible (ProRes Raw HQ recording).

The files are wonderful a they can be equated with those of vastly more expensive products.

IMO, the A1 II is a real monster, Sony's best mirrorless camera, hands down (I prefer it to FX3 and FX6).

A perfect combination for those who want to travel light, always be ready, without any compromise on quality and with enormous advantages from every point of view.

Nice footage. I have an A1 and I prefer it over the FX3 or FX30. Have you had any experience with the original A1? If so, what do you like better about the A1 II? And have you done a true split-screen comparison (simultaneous recording) between the best internal codec vs. ProRes files from your Ninja? If so, I'd love to see that comparison.

BTW, your model reminds me of a younger version of the Flamenco dancer in Roger Water's "Last Refugee" and "Wait for Her" videos. And that is a compliment.

Thanks for commenting.
I also had the A1 first version and I can say that the image quality is very similar, if not identical.
The MKII differs in better ergonomics, improved AF system (it's really crazy), excellent focus assist when working in manual, articulating monitor, better stabilisation and more. I recorded simultaneously in camera and externally in Raw. Both are great, but Raw is more organic and totally free of compression artefacts. It is very difficult to appreciate the difference on YouTube or similar platforms.

Lovely footage. Thanks for sharing. Not familiar with Thypock brand of lens...
Curious with all the great benefits of AF, why you chose manual primes (assuming they are manual only).
And just for full disclosure, were you paid by Thypock or Sony for this test?

Filippo, thanks for the answers to my questions. As nice as the A1 II is, I guess I'll be keeping my A1 for the foreseeable future. Better AF would be nice though, the AI auto-focus on my Z200 is amazing and I'll bet some of that same technology has found its way into this camera as well. I thought the FX6 AF was amazing (and it is) but these newer cameras take it up another notch.

Thanks for watching.
I was hired by Adcom (Italian dealer) to test the Simera C primes.
The A1 II and all the rest of the equipment I used are my property.

Nice Filippo,

Any comments on Sony A1 AF vs DJI focus pro?
Thank you!

Sony A1 II AF is unbeatable.

DJI's Focus Pro is a great help when using manual lenses, but it’s not perfect.

We will definitely see more and more sophisticated LiDAR systems in the near future.

Circling back on this. Filippo, did you buy a set of these lenses? If not, what reservations did you / would you have about buying them?
Thanks in advance.
