Looks like Canon has finally announced their announcement.

Looks very much like a new C500 II/C300 III style body. You can just make out the jog wheel in the lower right hand corner of this frame. Boosted in Photoshop below for a better look.

lol, j/k...it might have not been lacking anything for many - but, per usual, you want the next generation camera to have the next generation specs; better AF, better IS, better codecs, more HFRs, better HFRs not limited by bit rate, more dynamic range, maybe finally a C-Log4, better color, more physical changes, more internal flexibility with commands and menus, anything and everything that will make someone interested in upgrading or buying a new camera like you are interested in the new Blackmagics.

If the C300 stays over $5K, it's going to need way more than that as the S35 RF C70 likely outsold it by a lot.

The 500 is in an interesting place as it should be the best in the line and there is no full-frame best in RF right now, so it either becomes a C500 III with RF or a new name will be introduced.

Unless you're allowed to use whatever camera you like, the only brands people care about for owner/ops are Sony and Arri. I doubt this will change with the next release unless Canon price it as aggressively as a Sony equivalent. I don't think there will be any features that can make the camera a new standard, only price.

I'm sure it'll be a great camera though, especially after learning from so many previous "C" models.

Besides more AI, I don't see anyone ever knocking off Sony or ARRI unless some type of advanced lighting camera from big tech comes along.

Venice obviously took things to another level, especially after a few larger-than-life films and I think that's what it would take for Canon or Panasonic. A 'Top Gun' film, if you will.

Any new Canon is mostly for the hustling Joes and Janes on forums and socials.

Other than incorporating AI, either marketing gimmick, or actually using AI effectively, with the larger threat of AI hurting the medium, do we think any of the major Japanese players will start throwing the kitchen sink into any products, maybe stuff they could've done for years but didn't make financial sense to give it away? I'm sure some desperate innovation will make its way in at some point.

There's really no one else to try that besides Canon, and I don't think so. Sony will continue improving in their own ways and building relationships with their studios.

And computers will be used more and more...

Yeah I agree. I still just want the Canon EVF-V70.

I think it's crazy Sony don't make LED lights. They could make films in their studios, with their cameras, using screens for LED volumes and LED lighting, which works perfectly with their cameras and screens!

I'm fond of BMD, yes. Only the Cine12K has me seriously looking. The Cine17K-65 sensor is cut from the same wafer as the 12K, just wider, but in LPL or Hasselblad mount which pushes it beyond my interest level to invest in a lens set. But even the Cine12K kit with batteries and charger and tax burns 20 bills. That's a lot of coin for a BM camera, when they chop prices drastically at some point in the product lifecycle. I don't need it for anything, even FF. I am beguiled by the piecrust promise of 16 DR stops, or hopefully 2 more actual than the 12 they have now. If it does that, I could be down for it, but I didn't buy my present Ursa12K until the price had dropped 40% off its introduction. Patience is rewarded, early adoption is not. But my Ursa12K has been better than I expected, shooting from the shoulder with stabilized EF lenses. BMD color is near the best.

Why? It's still a great camera, and hopefully you got it at a discount now that it is about 4 years since it was released.
Just some GAS. I picked up one lightly used <100 hrs for $3500 with the speed booster. I was debating whether to wait out a FF c70 but who knows when/if that comes and with the SB it’s FF anyway. I don’t think they can do much better than 16 stops of DR unless they pull out the 20 stop sensor I’ve been hearing rumors about, but how many stops do you need practically speaking…

What was it lacking before that it will get now?
I own the C500 MkII with everything for a nice rig including EVF-V70, etc. Love it, its a great camera.

But when I travel to remote places, I still focus a lot on photography and usually I can only bring limited equipment. Certainly not both RF and EF lenses, especially when they need to be redundant focal lengths. So the C500 stays at home and I bring my C70.

Give me an EOS cine camera with RF that is full frame and on par with the C500 and I will be a very happy customer. Although a poor customer, the R1 and R5 MkII look incredibly tempting as well.
