"MODEL / PHOTOGRAPHER" - an ELOQUENT GRAFFITI prelude – a film by SABI

That's cool. Glad to see you are still doing your entry for us...

Was there something that brought this about, or you just decided to turn it into a "gamechanger" (so as not to spoil the fun for others)

later,
Jason

Wait, that's exactly what my short is!!!! But it's been my game all along, so I guess it's not a "gamechanger," more of a "game-stay-the-samer"...

From the beginning, we were struggling with having too much story. And for a while the plan was to make it at the length it needs to be, then hack away a 6 minute version like I did for IFHY and LoveFest.

but ultimately, the decision to pursue this as a feature was made about a week after we shot the New Year's Eve footage. I was simultaneously developing another feature for Marion Kerr and John T. Woods that was running short on story. and at some point we decided to interweave that story with the one we were developing for EG because they were linked thematically. They were already like two halves of a fully explored theme, so making a few adjustments here and there to weave them together was easy. Figuring out what component of this could fit in LossFest was hard. And it wasn't until a week ago that we decided on taking one character from each of the EG stories and developing a history between them.

That's cool. I would love to see this whole thing take off with many stories all coming and going in the same universe.

as you know, that is what "Wanderlust" is. a fictional universe where all these stories live, interact and overlap. EG is just one part of that universe. and Wanderlust.to will continue to develop to help navigate that world online.

The aspect of EG that surprises people is that my intention is to give it away for free.

from tonight. can't share the really good stuff just yet. but here's a taste.

FEAR OF FAILURE

I can't stand this feeling. Every day that I know I will be shooting, working with actors, I build up a lot of nervous energy. Really, it's akin to stagefright. I have trouble sleeping during production. and clearly it's because I'm afraid of failing. I've never cancelled a day of shooting because of it, but sometimes circumstances have cancelled shooting for whatever reason and i can't deny I feel a huge wave of relief. The only reason it isn't crippling is because experience has shown me that once we start, it all goes away (until we break for lunch and I have time to think again). Same thing with public speaking... I have a hard time enjoying myself at events where I have to "present". It looks like Kevin and I may be doing a presentation at DIY Days Philadelphia in July and I know I'll be a wreck in the days leading up to it.

Anyway, today we're shooting the key scene for our LossFest short and as usual I'm terrified of f*cking it up. I know, in my head, that it would be very difficult to, but I can't seem to shake the "fear and loathing". not yesterday. not today. not ever.

I'll just simply say this....without that nervous energy...you will screw up. Don't worry yourself...you'll do fine.

I don't know if it's the same today but I learned some years back that the 3rd biggest fear folks have is "death" ....#2 was..."Public Speaking"...I forgot what #1 was.

I am with you 10000000000 percent. I felt it every day for the first week of shooting during my feature, and I lost 10 pounds during that three week shoot. I felt it in a big way last Friday night before our weekend shoot, and I can't believe I was able to fall asleep that night. But we always get through it, somehow.

Hey Forsman,

I gave a presentation at the University California/San Bernardino last weekend on issues involving small production companies. I had a net connection in the room so I pulled up the SABI site and then played I F*cking Hate You for the audience (I truly do believe that any indie production company can learn a lot from SABI). Anyway, the attendees were blown away by IFHY and I remembered all over again why I am convinced you are a genius even if you are a DOGME 95 kool-aid drinker. Congrats again for all you've done. Kick ass and take names my friend.

FEAR OF FAILURE

I have the exact same fears. Every time I finish a film, I say, that's it, no more directing for me. Just editing from now on. But eventually I summon up enough courage to try again.

It makes me feel better in a way knowing that you're as scared as I am, because I know that it would piss me off if you let your fear get to you and you quit directing.

Because I want to see your films. I'm selfish, sue me.
