HMC150 Best deal?

The B and H price is pretty darn good.. and with the rebate, this makes it a really sweet deal. It's down a 100 bucks from when I bought it, and the extended battery is a nice deal.. and the 8 gig card is cool, but that's really only a 20 dollar item.

Just ordered mine today from authorized Panny dealer Videotex (www.videotexsystems.com) for $3179. Super-friendly service and free shipping. The Website price says 3495, I think, but I called and got the lower price. Can't wait for my new cam to arrive!

you will pay quebec sales tax and federal gst. You will also pay a brokerage fee to clear the camera through customs and that can be quite steep when it is that amount of money. But if you are gonna go this route pm me and I will give you some tips on how to clear it yourself in Montreal if you haven't done it already.
I bought mine from Vistek in Toronto last August. I paid #3999.00 and waited until October for it to arrive and take delivery.
I honestly think you should buy it up here. The warranty issues etc. make buying it here worth it and if you buy it in Toronto and have it shipped then you save the provincial sales tax. Vistek sent it Fedex overnight for $35. 00 .
Cheers

I ordered mine from VSA and paid $3082 for it, after being quoted $3150, which I thought was
great to begin with. Josh Phillips / 800-888-2140 ext 135

VSA is an authorized panasonic retailer? Did it come with a battery, full warranty and an SD card?

check their site, but I am pretty sure they are an authorized dealer, and I get the rebate, but not sure how long it will take to get the battery and SD card from Panasonic. Give Josh a call.

What i should do is calculate how much it would cost me to get a camera from the US, calculate the import TAxes and shipping and use that final price in Canadian Dollars to get a better deal from the locals.

According to Panasonic's Professional Video website, they are authorized.

Vistek is now listing the HMC150 at $4699 with the side-note save 400.00
Actually, they always seem to list items at a high price with similar "save" side-notes.
But, it seems that all the major dealers in Toronto are listing it for around the same price.
The cam was definitely cheaper a few months ago.
Even with the exchange rate and fees it may be hard to avoid the quote "Buy American"
It's kind of sad and funny when you think of it. When the HMC 150 came out it was being touted as the best bang for the buck because of what it offered and how cheap it was compared to other cams. It may still hold that position in the States but in Toronto it may make owners of older models hold on to them a little longer.
I may also be one of those looking for a good deal on this cam and have to consider the American route unless someone can find a better deal in our Canadian neck of the woods

Hi Papa, in last December I bought in Vistek my Ex1, I paid 7200Ca$ with free shipping and paying only federal taxes (because is out of Ontario). SHE came in only 2 days. For the guarantee I believe that is better to buy in Canada, NY and Toronto stay at 6 hours of Montreal, but going to Toronto you do not need to pass a border with slightly elegant agents.
Forgive my english.

I just ordered mine from B&H over the phone. I was worried the price would change once they come back in stock, but as of now it's $3200, and you can order it at that price - you just have to do it over the phone. Should be back in stock in about a week.

That's the lowest price from an authorized dealer I'm aware of right now, since several retailers raised theirs.

I just ordered mine from Willoughbys, it should arrive tomorrow:2vrolijk_08: Willoughbys had it for 3395.00 and instock.

Wow, that doesn't make sense...the economy is contracting and they're upping prices. I've heard economists flat out say Japan is in a depression...I'm not sure how raising prices is going to help them when everyone is hurting.

B & H sent me an e-mail last night saying they now have these in stock (still $3,199.95). I ordered online, and received confirmation e-mail with shipping info. I hope to have my OWN AG-HMC150 on Friday. It's nice using company gear (I use the same camera at work), but having your own is a nice hedge against disasters of all sorts- plus you get to leave your settings the way you like 'em! I sure am thankful for a nice tax return!

Yea I work with this little beast at work to it is a pain in the butt to have to get clearance to use it for outside gigs. But in a few weeks I will have my on HMC to do what I please!

I'm in Toronto and looking at cameras as well. I don't know how they come up with these prices at Vistek. The HMC is $4,699. The 200a is only $700 more, $5,399. The 170 is $5,699.

All of us in Toronto know that Vistek is a horrendous place to do business with. Everyone that works there is miserable and I've witnessed numerous fights between staff in front of customers. I'm sure there good to deal with at a distance, it's a different experience going into the store, though.

As for me, I might have to do a little drive down to NYC to visit my sister. For me, the only negative I can see is your warranty being in the US. But these cameras are pretty rugged, no? My DVX has never given me a hint of problem, knock on wood.
