just got manhatten 8.9" LCD

Hey that is great that you checked out the LCD questions. Thank you for that and the links provided. Excellent work.

nice. How is it? I was really interested but couldn't wait anymore so I went with the manhattan peeps.. and they are local so that was the clincher.

Well I ordered one too and I wanted to use my Lithium Ion Batteries from my Varizoom monitor. The issue for me is that the Manhatten takes a 2.5mm x5.5mm barrel size connector. My battery is a 2.1x5.5mm barrel size so I am going to try to retrofit a new connector to it, to make it work.

I have extra 5.5x2.5 connectors, shoot me a email with order and I can include the connectors.

I got the 10.9 in. model. It works great. Here's a couple shots of it in action:

I thought it would be too heavy for a hot shoe mount? Have you tried the battery w/Velcro on the back?

Thinking about getting one of these... Is it easy to pack and move around and are you happy with the sharpness and color? Looks like it shows a little bit more of the frame than the stock LCD on the A1. Would love to have as close to 100 percent as possible (or underscan :-). Any more thoughts would be great.

Thanks.

Hey NextWaveG.
You have the same shoulder mount that I have. Have you tried flying your rig with the new monitor? How about mounting the monitor to the grip arm?

Thanks.

Those pics actually really make me want to get one of these, although I'll probably get the 8.9 model, as the 10.9 would be a bit big for my rig. I'm trying to find out when they'll have them in stock. Just waiting on the email.

NextWaveG,

Can you tell me what equipment you are using? I like your setup and I am particularly interested in the shoe mount you are using for the monitor.

Thanks,

Richard

I bought mine primarily for sharp focus and for that it really delivers on my XH-A1. Much better than the LVD or Viewfinder or even my Varizoom monitor. The Tekkeon battery I bought with the monitor works fine but I would be careful to make sure one sets the voltage of the battery to 12 each and every time or else you will fry the LCD screen with a highter voltage..One thing that bothers me a little though is that the LCD seems really sensitive to the angle you are viewing it at. For instance when it is lying flat down on my desk, it looks nice and crisp but when I have it say mounted on the camera or looking at it like I am looking at my laptop right now, the monitor image looks much too light even though I have the brightness set to really low. Are the rest of you experiencing that as well? Is this just the nature of an LCD? Like I said though, I bought it for focus and for that it is really crisp.

i just got my tekkeon battery this past week and i'm shooting an interview tomm and i'll be using the monitor. sadly without my letus adapter, but i'll still be using the monitor since i'm one man banding this gig, making it easy to ask questions and do framing, etc.. i'll let you know how it goes.

I'm anxiously waiting for my 8.9 inch ManLCD Monitor. They sold out over a week ago, so opted for the "B" monitor with 1:1 pixel ratio. The guys at ManLCD say that the Chinese New Year stopped all manufacturing and shipments to anywhere in the world. They had to wait 3 weeks until they could get new orders. Hopefully, I'll get mine by the end of next week.

They had one in stock on Thursday. I picked that one up and it should be here on Wednesday. Not sure if it's the A or B version.

I'm sure its not the A version. They haven't produced the B version yet. The parts are coming on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. The B version costs $100 more, but has several additional features including the 1:1 ratio for zooming into HD footage. In which case, you could get even more precise focusing.
