Batman goes Nutzoid!

If the problem was that big it should have been handled offset out of sight of crew.

Even though I can understand that an actor would get steamed over someone ruining his concentration, I have to agree that this could've been handled in a calm and collected manner.

And it could've been much less embarrassing for Bale than the current situation where it is circling the globe through all the online news feeds that now have the mp3 file.

I have yet to be on a dramatic film where at least one person DOESN'T snap like that :)

If you read a script, any script, and it's supposed to be dramatic or scary... offer to shoot the BTS. I've given up some really good content... where the BTS would have been way more valuable then the actual project.

Not that I approve Bale's ranting, but he does a good job at it. Usually people sound like a broken record when they get crazy mad, but he used some good arguments.

Good arguments? Really? Excessive use of the f-word usually denotes low intelligence. I just heard an edited clip where they strung together every f*ck in that tirade, it's almost as long as the real thing!

EDIT: This is my favorite Cafe thread since the "On the Lot" dissection of 2007.

Yeah, I thought he sounded like a broken record also.

Once the other party apologizes it's time to shut up... Bale goes on for another 2.5 minutes enjoying his own power-trip.

I see his side of it... the DP was stupid to not respect the acting (we treated actors that had challenging scenes with white gloves for a college project)... Bale is a great actor (in my opinion)... but he's also a dick. Between this incident, and the other assault thing... c'mon... he's probably a Russell Crowevian dick... good actor though.

Not to mention he still has to feel pressured and pissed, that Heath Ledger stole the Dark Knight's thunder from him... :)

Matt...

Come on, that's not fair to Crowe. He doesn't take any guff in his personal life...but I've never heard of him being anything less than a professional when working.

:evil:Besides, his fights are always with men:evil:

Crowe is one of those uber-rare actors that could have been a big star in any era. I say he's one of the finest actors working today.

I've seen plenty of A list (and Z list) stars lose their shi* on big sets.

Bottom line is that its never OK to treat or talk to someone like that. Its worse that studios and producers buy into letting theirs act like the because they are stars and they studios are afraid of losing them.

We make movies, we don't perform brain surgery. There is nothing life threatening in what we do that we need to take things THAT seriously.
Agreed. I've seen surgeons get mad at a nurse DURING life saving surgery and they never lose their cool like Bale did. Not even close. It's not life and death and Bale had to be restrained. You can hear them step in at one point.

There is simply NO excuse for his behaviour. The Director should have stepped in after 30 seconds and grew a pair.

Oh, but they do, and it doesn't even happen just during a critical moment. It happens for even stupid little stuff, like the Nurse calling them to inform them their patient is dying. Dicks are everywhere, all the time.

Oh contrair It was a live saving day it was Terminator Rise of the what you mah called it.

I like Bale and Crowe as actors.

Maybe the end justifies the means... I understand people who solicit good performances are taking Bale's side... i.e. ZF... because there are so few great performances.

Fact! Certain personality types are drawn to certain jobs. Fact!

Fact! Arrogant, self-centered, childish actors are nothing new. Fact!

True, but should they be treated with kid gloves? No.
The Director should have stepped in.

He's a decent actor but he's far from the best in the business.

Well, it's tough, like others have said, to know what's really going on.

Couple that with the fact that Bale has X-hundred million dollars riding on him, while the DP is basically interchangeable, I'm sure adds a level of pressure none of us can even imagine. I really would never want to be in this position. Meaning, the movie tanks, he looks bad, not the DP. So I'm sure actors in his position are insane with stress.

Not excusing him, but I can see where it would come from.

I will say, it seems like his rage is pretty focused. When he asks for his costume, he is careful to be polite and say please. So he is not just out of his mind here.

And I agree, the director or an on set producer should have stepped right in and taken this outside immediately. Those are the real culprits here for not controlling the situation.

There are people who make far more than him who don't react to situations like that and there are people who do. That's a given.

As far as I'm concerned it's still no excuse. I bet there are better actors who make far more $ and who have had worse days that would never act like that.
And then there are those who would, and do.

He's just a good example of the egomaniacal actor gone wild. Hey, that could make for a great video series!

Egomaniacal actors gone wild! :)

Well I'm not sure there are many actors making more than him right now.

But what I meant was that the franchise is dependent on him. The success of the X-hundred million dollar investment rests on him to a large degree. It has nothing to do with his acting ability, just what his box office is. And for all we know, the studio has clauses that they can sue him for a bad performance.

The bottom line for me is that his anger is all about the work. If he was screaming like this because his assistant forgot to put equal in his coffee, then I'd certify him as a douchebag.

What I meant was not just actors, I meant professionals in positions of power and responsibility that make far more. Yes, they are out there.

It doesn't matter really. Some people will act like him in the same instance, some won't. It's really that simple. Not everyone would react like he did in that moment. Your chemistry has to allow for it.

I understand that he was probably under considerable pressure.
For some people that's an excuse to behave badly, for others that's simply not an option.

I'm not saying that I could predict how I would act in such a position. I just know that there are people who would never stoop to that level regardless of the situation. That's all I'm saying.

From the news--

"The incident took place last July on the set at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, days before Bale would face assault allegations from his mother and sister in London. Charges were never filed because his family did not want to press the matter and because prosecutors said there was a lack of sufficient evidence."

Seems like this happened the same week he was dealing with his family turmoil, as I predicted. Bad week for Bale.

Or bad week for everyone around him.
