Most people I see using adapters always go overboard and end up making whatever they shoot look like some sort of dramatic television commercial.

I know they use a fig rig, a wide-angle lens (which one) and they tape their cameras with colored tapes to ID them.

Bingo. Getting tunnel vision on a shallow DoF (no pun intended!) is the biggest downfall I see in a lot of amateur films. Shallow DoF a good movie does not make.
