"FALLING UP" a Flyin' Monkey Films production

Adventures of the last day of principal photography:

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that locations are subject to change even if you've checked and double checked and even have a location agreement. I dunno, maybe somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, or maybe it was the fact that I had failed to write down the name of the manager of the coffee shop and THEN added insult to injury by forgetting what she she looked like... maybe THAT had something to do with it. In any case, we ended up having to find a new coffee shop location at the last minute. Thankfully the Second Cup on Yonge St and Sheppard (where I'd met my actors) allowded us to go in and shoot the one scene we needed. That went well although I had to throw away a dolly shot that I had planned for.

On hindsight it seems that today I threw away all of the dolly shots I had planned for...

We shot everything handheld (shoulder mount) or on the tripod, including the pickup shots and reshoots. They came off very well and there is hardly any shake at all. Much nicer look as well. We were using the Filmic setting from the downloaded scene files that Panasonic provides and it was a very nice look.

Anyway, we got through a remarkable number of shots and wrapped around 5:30 or so. Now we're making plans for supplemental footage to go along with marketing the film including some exclusive content for the website. Right now time to get through editing and send a rough cut over to FDL for some scoring. Francesco has done a phenomenal job so far feeling the pulse of the film and now we have to take it one step further.

Check out the podcast and BTS photos in a bit.

Time to edit and schedule ADR.

Looks like you're having some adventures over there. I showed my actors your SWAT story while we were on set yesterday and they started asking why WE didn't have a SWAT team in our movie.

Maybe I can write one in...

Holy Frijoles! I'm feeling so behind. I still have auditions to do Tomorrow night, then rehearsals next week, and won't even start shooting till the week after!

Good to hear you made it through. I am having trouble getting one location, which is irking me. So far though, everything else is coming along...

Meh: You got off to a late start is all, but we're all expecting great things from you. If you'd jumped in on the day of the announcement like Zak and myself then you'd be so far ahead now. Which location is irking you? Hopefully not another coffee shop :D

No, I have a bar, but that's covered. The one irking me is Nickelodeon, the one with these views. But they are part of Viacom, so it takes a lot of paperwork to get anything done...

That's going to be challenging , especially dealing with all of that paperwork. Having to deal with alternate location sucks too, especiallu with people you don;t already know. How long before they confirm or deny?

I have no way of knowing. Luckily, it's basically one shot with one actor, so when we do get the go ahead, we can plan the shoot date fairly easily...maybe 3-4 hr shoot total.

Oh nice then. So you can get the rest of the movie shot out and then sneak that location in when you get clearance. And here you are worrying... I snuck in a skyscraper shot in my movie but I don't think we're ever going to see it. Can't wait to see yours.

first edit is locked. There was a bunch of stuff I had to trim down, but I have a locked edit at exactly 6:00 and the first version shoudl be going out to the composer (Francesco De Leonardis) later today. I'll spend the rest of the day trying to tighten up the edit and make sure my pacing is solid with the right cut scenes. Once we have a picture lock I'll send out for Color Correction and get the actors back in to do some ADR.

Locking and loading.

I'm going to delay sending to FDL (the composer) for a bit. I have a second round of editing to do based on feedback from Mr Rogan (thanks dude). Got a few tweaks here and there to fix some problems that I'm finding with pacing. Need to shoot a couple of inserts, but those are no big deal. Will try to meet with Mark and get those taken care of tout de suite.

You sure aint playin' around puck. I can't wait to see what you come up with. I got the score back from FDL. It is insane. It is almost too insane.
