Best place to buy HVX200

I found a great deal on the HVX200 at Sonic Cameras (soniccameras.com): starts at about $2000.

Does anyone have experience with this company? Good/bad?

Any other good places to buy?

Thanks!

AVS in San Diego. You can also try B&H in NY. I was there the other day and the HVX is about 4700. Anything below this is gray market.

Specialized Communications

Full Compass

Any other good places to buy? Buy Panasonic authorized.

We can guarantee you will never get that cam from that place for $2000.00

Gray market HVX205a

Gray market HVX205a

I see deals like this on the web:

HVX205A -- $2,649.00
http://www.zoommania.com/descript.asp?prodid=AGHVX205A

HVX205A -- $3,089.99
http://cgi.ebay.com/Panasonic-AG-HVX200A-A...%3A1%7C294%3A50

I know this is the "Japanese" version of the camera but with switchable English menus. I also know that Panasonic will not service this model in the US. Is it worth it to buy these heavily discounted models? Has anyone purchased them on the web? Do they work as well as the HVX200A?

Obviously the price is a huge draw considering the price of new P2 cards....

If you dont mind used, Ebay has some good deals.

Don't mess with any website with a price "too good to be true" - they WILL scam you.

All you are doing is wasting money, and incurring frustration.

David,

I won't be buying any grey market versions of the HVX200A. Risking no US warranty is unacceptable for me -- and I would imagine the re-sale value of an HVX205A is junk anyway.

I purchased an HVX already out of B&H's "Used" department. It was advertised as a new HVX200A in the original manufacturer's packaging but without a P2 card for $3,750.00. So I jumped on it, obviously.

I open the box and inside is an HVX205A. I will be returning the camera later this week for an exchange or refund. I will ask that they provide me with the camera that was advertised, however I don't know how likely it is that they will comply. It's very frustrating that it wasn't even adveritsed properly...

Like I said -- this was advertised as brand new, just without the 16GB P2 card ($4,780 brand new w/ the card). I imagine you got that price for your HVX200 since it was a little used.

But even so, they gave me an HVX205A! If it was truely an HVX200A it still would have been a good deal.

Huh,
Usually B&H is pretty good. No gray market products that I know of. If they sold you a 205A, that's F***ed up. I've never had a problem with an exchange or return, so I think you'll be alright.

I know B&H use to sell lots of grey market items.
I use to buy grey market still cameras all the time from them.
I even bought a light meter from them once that was sold as new.
I had a problem with it, but instead of sending it back in, I took it apart and found a bad second hand soldier point.

I re-did the connection and haven't had an issue since, and that has been 9 years ago.

The difference between grey market and U.S, is SOMETIMES, only the warranty issue, as such,
selling a grey market as a used item (no-warranty), but in new condition, is not that far off.

If I bought something described as used, and it came in an obviously new packaging, I would be more happy than with an item that had been handled.
