New Card reader ready for shipping

Actually, this makes a good argument for using only ONE SDHC card per adapter. It's probably best to seat an SDHC card once, and then never remove it, than to continually stress the design by inserting & removing multiple cards.

Exactly. We have a $35 dollar card and a $40 dollar SDHC memory card. For uner $100 we can now replicate the $800 Sony SxS, save for overcrank. Just buy one dang adapter per SD card.

In fact, doing this allows you to swap cards while filming if necessary unlike just popping out the SDHC, so it has advantages.

The price differential will accelerate with the release of the 32GB card so it makes even MORE sense to just buy these. Heck, buy a dozen and be done with it.

I was told yesterday by a friend they were quoted around AU$1600 for a 32GB SxS card. Thats Australian dollars with 10% sales tax. If this was accurate, that equated to about US$960.

Still far far from KxS prices if the 32GB Ultra IIs are all dandy but for SxS its an interesting price move. Its like they are priced based on the old US exchange rate having gone from around 95c/$ to now 66c/$... There is a rumour Sony prices here are going up at the start of 09, I wonder how much by though.

i don't think so, first of because they are "discontinued", I guess kensington made a deal with Sony, or vice versa;

Those cards were being phased out before we determined they worked with the EX. They've been around since 2006.

No big deal.
They're not the only card that works. ;)

so far they are the most reliable card anyone has found though and I still get almost daily requests for them or help in finding them....

hopefully, but it still has to proove itself. I did a lot of testing and had a number of other people test the Delkin and none had any problems at all, then when it went 'public' a number of problems raised their hand. Time will tell. Even though there are a number of near professional products that use the spring loaded mechanism for SD (including my Nikon D90), I'd still prefer a solid static mount like the Kensingtons. There is that little 'lip' at the end of each SD card to allow near flush mounting yet still allow simple removal.

the next few weeks will be the most enlightening, once they get used in the field (not just plugged in and report 58min)

So, anyone tested them card readers yet ?

Got 4 cards last week. Did only initial testing. Big difference from Delkins (IMHO): springs work good for now. I opted to have one card adapter per SD card.
Another problem became on boxing day when they were practically giving away Sandisk SD Ultra II 8/16 GB at local Best Buy: I ended up with too many cheap SD cards. Now, I have to order more from Ross:(...

Got mine today. SWEET!

I wonder how far the prices of SxS will drop on Ebay due to this little Christmas miracle? Looks like they are already under $700

can't imagine they will change much. Productions with "budgets" will still use SxS so there will always be a market for them whilst the masses will buy Ross' great product.

Prices of SxS at B&H may not change, but eBay will likely be different. Conversly Kensington adaptors on eBay are popping up for much higher prices than they origonally cost...

Hi Marius,

That's great news. Please report back on how you go, we're always keen to hear how our MxR's are going, good or bad, it helps us to improve our cards.

All the best
Ross Herewini
Sydney.

Okay, let me try to understand this. The MxR Expresscard Reader will allow some of the major brands of SD/SDHC cards such as Sandisk Ultra II 16GB to be used in the EX1 with the door closed, correct? I just need a confirmation. Thanks!

Yes, you are correct. The MxR will allow recording via select SDHC cards for both the EX1, and the EX3. The door is able to be closed on both the EX1 and EX3 as well.
