The built in downconversion to SD looks great!

Not sure if anyone has tried hooking up their 150 via the RCA jacks which then has the camera downconvert the signal to letterbox SD (or pillar box or squeeze.). I just hooked up the cam last night like this to a dvd recorder and I must say even then the quality looked excellent and much better than a straight SD signal from my DVX.

I used to be one of those people that said why shoot HD if delivery etc. is SD just stick with SD well ever since Ive had my 150 i dont understand why I never went to HD sooner. Oh wait now I know why the 150 wasnt released yet :)

Kind of a lame post but every day that i use this camera the better it gets

Not knocking the quality of the DVX either. I love that camera too!

Anyone notice interlacing lines using the sd outputs on lcd screens? The HMC150 seems to do this, while the HVX200 does not on the same set up. Apples to different apples, I realize, but anyone have any thoughts? Is it a problem or (more than likely) a user error?

Probably a combo of both. Some LCD screens are much better than others. I can tell you that my Dell 2405 is a great computer monitor but HORRIBLE video monitor....

congrats Matt upon discovering the many joys of HD. I switched to HD full time almost 3 years ago now when I got the HVX... and have never looked back. I think for DVX people, it's hard to give that camera up for a combo of the memories and also because to so many of us that was one of the biggest first time purchases. Since then, I've switched cams a few times and now I'm happy to be a 150 user. My HVX stays in its bag more times than it comes out. I think that the 170 would also suffer the same fate... the 150 just looks about as good and the shoot times can't be beat. 99 minutes of HD sould cost me 2600 bucks in P2 instead of 70 bucks.

David it's some cheap recorder we got at wal-mart for like $50 last year but quite honestly it does a decent job for quick recording to DVDs so I could imagine that a name brand would probably produce better results but I cant complain. We originally bought it to dump a bunch of 20 year old VHS tapes to DVD.

I get interlacing when I output 1080i on a SDTV,which I find weird. All the other progressive modes look great .
Does anybody get black and white images out of the component out ?

I will want to output like that to a dv recorder ao a little handycam forcorporate shoots where they want tape. Hope it works ok

Should work fine although S-video would've be an even better SD image. Guess we can't have everything....
