Panasonic RPSDV16GU1K Class 6 High Speed 16GB SD Memory Card

Because the Panny price is the MSRP. The same reason the MSRP for the HMC150 is $3,995, but everywhere is selling it for $3,200-$3,500.

IT's not a rip off... by any stretch of the imagination. The other cards are just more off brands. I personally went for the panny ones to stick to their recommendation with the cam... besides it's like 40 bucks more than the knock-offs.. Now, if you want rip offs, try the 64 gig P2 card....

I tried Sandisk Video HD 16GB with HMC150.
It went bad after two hours of shooting.
I called Sandisk to replace the card.
I am still waiting for a new card to arrive.
(Sandisk paid for UPS return, which is nice.)

Sandisk's service was nice and qucik.
However, I don't want to risk any of my precious footage with an unreliable card. So no more Sandisk for me....(I will use new Sandisk card for digital camera only.)

Meanwhile, I will be using Panny 16GB which works flawlessly so far.

If they are advertising it for less than 3495, they are most likely not an authorized dealer, or they are a dealer thats about to lose the panny lineup. It can sell less than that, but only through a formal quote process.

Remember, there are different types of SanDisk cards. They have consumer, prosumer and professional levels. The SanDisk's top end card, the Extreme III, exceeds Panasonic's cards in speed and reliability... and most places have it for about $130 or so for the 16gb. Personally, I'm using a 16gb Transcend class 6 that I got for $30. You can run some read/write tests to check for bad sectors and transfer speeds.

Iuse the sandisk extrme 3 (2gigs) for my photo camera, and it works great, but I don't really want to know how much would a 16g one cost.....

Most places carry the Extreme III for around $130. You can also get the Ultra II for about $60. I would never buy a Panasonic card.

For the same reason I wouldn't buy a Monster brand HDMI cable. It isn't that their quality is bad... its just not worth it. If you want to pay the same price, get one of SanDisk's higher quality lines. If you just want the space, get a Transcend or an A-Data card. In all reality, any class 6 card will have specifications far higher than our camera. You can just dump the video faster the better the card, and I don't think anyone has a higher bitrate than SanDisk's cards... also, I'm willing to bet that there are far more user experiences with the Transcends than the Panasonics... and the Transcends still have good user reviews. If you're really worried, you can run a couple test cycles of a hard drive performance test on your card to ensure all the sectors are good.
