Maxell Officially Announces Their P2 Card!

so now it's Panasonic, Fuji and Maxell ? I wonder if the price difference is going to be substantial?

well, as we all know, announcing a product and a product being available are two very different things.

I heard that a fairy dies every time a camera company announces a release date and doesn't remotely meet it... ;)

Prices are going to have to come down. This economy isn't doing well, obviously. Nikon DSLRs have been dropping a bit over the last few weeks and I hope that will spread across the industry.

Based on what Jan was saying, Panasonic's profit margin on P2 cards is very low. Unless Fuji and Maxell can come up with a less expensive way of producing cards that meet the same exacting specs that Panasonic implements, I doubt we'll see much price difference.

According to the guy from Australia, he said something about the Fuji looking like it was produced by Panasonic.

If this follows suit from tape based media and DVD media, Maxell is always cheaper than the other name brands. But P2 is a whole other ballgame. Would be nice if more manufacturers getting involved resulted in price drops.

Hello puredrifting,
yes that was me, the Fuji 32 gig I bought looks and does everything the same as the Pana cards, (except it's branded with FUJI logo). It was cheaper than the Pana 32 gig, I have a great relationship with my supplier that's maybe why I got it at a cheaper price. But, I suppose if they are not competitively priced to Pana they will not sell product.
card pic and info on my site.

OMG! Fairys will soon be extinct! :)

The best thing about this news for me is that it tells me the P2 card will be around longer than some people, (like Sony) have predicted.

Hi Ted,
Yes agreed, "Announcements and long wait for release's) seems to be the P2 catch cry, whether its Pana or anyone else.

In a word No, it is built for a PCI desktop Mac or Windows, or a Macpro PCIe with the use of an adapter.
sorry, we'd all love to have a two to three card reader with USB2 or FW800 that was priced at under $300, But, sadly at this point it's only a wish.

Cheers
