Anyone use a GL2 as a backup?

I need a second/backup camera for weddings and other live events. I have a bad habit of being impatient, but I'm wondering if the GL2 might be a good option?

I don't need a lot of GL2 bashing, just some genuine thoughts. :dankk2:

I'm buying either one used.

I'm gonna try to bum a GL2 off my old video instructor and see the difference. I'll do one of those walking around downtown movies that are so popular on here.

i know this doesn't really answer your question but i was always curious how the GL2 stacks up to the DVX as well. when my buddy and i graduated from college he bought a GL2 and i got a DVX, we never really got a chance to shoot anything together before we moved away from each other.

I have mixed the GL2 with both a HVX and DVX. It does not match too well, but will work in a pinch. GL2 records an image with a green cast. I have found more success making a Panasonic scene file that matches the GL2 then trying to match the GL2 to the panny.

If you are trying to match 24p, Canon's 24f is not very close. If you lower the shutter speed to 1/30 on the GL2, 24f looks a little closer to true 24p.

Definitely not what you are looking for if you want precision (like in a multi cam shoot).

Well I've filmed some events in relatively low light with the gl2 and it really performs terribly... I wouldn't mix it with the dvx. the dvx looks wonderful, not to be made any less fantastic by the gl2 =]

the gl2 doesn't have 24f.... 30p is the best your gonna get. But if you slow the 30p down to 80 percent of its original speed you will get suedo 24p. I have used the gl2 quite a bit and I mean it's a great camera...if you have just stepped up from the single 1/6 ccd handy cam. Great learning cam for the "prosumer" level. Let's not forget about the infamous "eject tape" message that all cannon's seemed to be plagued with. When will CANON hop off the tap bandwagon? Sorry about the tangent.

Will the gl2 be a good option for backup? I mean it's better then nothing right? But look around here, people are selling a used dvx what seems to be every day. If you can, and the budget allows, go for the dvx. People are freaking out about digital cable and hd this and that. The dvx shoots great stuff and can up convert in almost any NLE quite nicely to 720p.

my 3 cents
