Robert Werden- Halloween Handyman (twilightfest)

Didn't read other comments, so excuse me if I'm repeating.

I enjoyed the film...good for a chuckle. Great idea for a story, but could have been developed a bit more. The acting was a little on the weak side too. Lets see some other actors next time. Audio was pretty much just in the right channel (which I'm sure you know by now). You needed to work with the lighting. When the Handyman was at the door, you couldn't see his face at all and the sky behind him was blown out. Interesting score.

First thing I noticed was the audio levels. I got a lot of distortion watching it. I’m guessing you should double check your levels Otherwise it was fun. Though I’m amazed that the handyman managed to sit on the lawn with his gun for 4 days.

Good job getting superboy to cry like that. Awesome.

Interesting concept... and yes, the audio wasn't my favorite either. I did like the guy in the electric chair though.

Some of the effects could have been left out and you still would have had a good story. I am saying it was better then Simon Van Winkle in a lot of ways keep keeping on and things will continue to get better for you.

"Now go make me a real ghost!"

LOL!

Good stuff. The video was a little washed out for the most part but overall this looked pretty good. The kids were awesome! They sold that scene.

Well done.

I agree that the casting was off for the woman, I think she should have been older. But a great make-up job on her in the end. I like the final frame under the credits.

Instead of a gun I would have preferred some gruesome tool from the garage...a hammer, a hatchet, a crowbar, pick an implement! I think if you saw him coming from behind her in the hallway as she left the garage about to attack her it would be more effective. She does give a good jerk when she's shot though.

A clever concept. Loved the kids. Superman's great.

HA HA!

Nice, funny short. Thank You!

"Now go make ME a ghost" That was the best line in the movies.

The props were cool. The subtle intro to the ball was good. The twist was VERY satisfactory. I wanted to see her die. I thought the combination of mediocre dialog and acting wasn't quite working for you, combined with the obvious technical issues.

Framing- A couple times there was a lot of head room, but they were cut off at the chin. his looked odd, and it's something you rarely see in pro movies.

The story and concept was great. A few more versions of the script would've made it work a lot better.

The opening is wonderful. The music is perfect to set the mood. It gets a nice laugh from me every time.

Overall, an enjoyable piece. I look forward to your next one!

Thanks everyone, im going to take my time on my next film. I think instead of using just my daughters friends I'll see about getting actors.
Im just starting to understand blocking and lighting, so hopefully my next one will be better.

The main thing is you like the stories im writing.

Very funny movie - I enjoyed it quite a lot. I loved the first scene when she looked at the gravestones. The score was also very nice and gave the film an ironycal feeling. Which music instrument was it? Perhaps a saxophone or a clarinet?
BTW - In Germany we don't usually have halloween, but the kids copied this traditional american fest, because they are thinking that they can get some candys for free. The problem is only that they don't know the sense of the fest and come nearly all without costumes. We were a little bit fed up about this and started to scare the children, like in your film. This was a great fun, but especially the children who came with their parents enjoyed it, but more the parents than the children! :zombie_smiley::zombie_smiley::zombie_smiley:

Very nice film!

Good job and I see a progression from your Time Fest entry. Everybody has pretty much hit on all the points I was going to make. Yeah, Superboy's crying made me laugh out loud. Aside from the technical issues, I thought you had a good story and concept. I enjoyed watching it play out. Good job!

thought the lead actress was weak, and the audio mix needed some work. kids didn't react scared like I thought they should. clever story idea.

Hey,

Just caught the flick. I thought it was a really interesting story, deftly told. It wasn't really my cup of tea and the ending seemed kind of predictable. It could have used more consistent lighting and the sound breaks were really obvious.

But a step in the right direction. I thought it moved quickly and the editing worked. And you did force the 6 minutes on us when all you wanted to tell was a 3 and a half minute story. Kudos for that. I would have liked more for both characters. Otherwise a fun entry and well themed. Look forward to next time.

cool idea!!

acting was only okay, but i did like when the handyman replied to the girl " yeah, i'll get you your ghost." music was good in the beginning but i didnt like the shrieks too much. they seemed too obvious. liked the ending! also good imagination with the electric chair.

Yeah this was a film that had a lot of cute and effective wee ideas that made it entertaining, i think overall the story was like someone mentioned a tad predictable, but it was light hearted enough.

Its of course your 2nd short and so in that regard, the technical elements will only improve with the next, which is good as there is room for improvement here (sound/bits and bops.)

The actress in the lead was a bit weak (casual) she could have been directed a bit better?! - I think her speech at times was a little unclear.

Anyway well done mate

Lots of good constructive ideas, thanks everyone.

I talked with Janson who was the lead in both my films and she is going to work with me on some scripts that never got made all the way back to love fest. We are going to shoot them and take our time doing it so we can get it right. Hopefully by the next fest we will be better. I told her we will be bringing in actors for the next fest.

Janson is really into acting, and she wants to do films with me any time I want, so having someone who is that excited is a good thing. She is 17 so as time goes by she will get better. Im thinking though it is not so much her as it is my own directing skills. Sometimes I dont ask for what I want and that makes the film suffer.

I clicked on your banner which brought me to this page, and im sorry, but i couldn't help but do this. It's like a disease. Noticed it was off balance and very overexposed. Always love a challenge!
