FRAGMENT by Mile Božičević

Ah Cool. Made it and approved. Way to commit yourself no matter what (from reading your first post). That's what separates the filmmakers from the excuse makers. Looking forward to it

You're right Mike-time pressure makes you use more brain than usually and ignore time-consuming yet unimportant things at the time(such as sleeping or so).
I'll be very glad to watch every film that's on this fest, comparing them to mine, learning what stuff do to next, what not etc...including yours of course. : )

Champloo tnx. It's not THE best movie ever, but I'm sure it'll be memorable. :D

That's what separates the filmmakers from the excuse makers.

This is true. I've been excuse maker for couple of times now. No more that stuff, and I want pure, non-masked critisc from you and all the others. That's the point in this fest-one needs to learn, not deceive himself.

welcome dude. just saw your post here among the throng... so many films to catch up on.. anyway, glad you made it in with your 2 weeks to go.

Bravo Mile!!!

I am very interested to see your movie!!!

Spoilers

I really enjoyed the camera work and the effect it gave. Really liked how things got normal when she was looking at the photos - first time anyways.

I'm lost whether she was hallucinating, or why the photos disappeared.

Absolutlely loved the Mime in the mirror scene, and the following freak out. Really well done.

What I was expectiing was that she became a photo herself. That's where I thought this grainy, stop action was taking us. In the end it was her and an empty book. Did she lose all her memories?

Really loved this emotional rollercoaster you took us on. Great stuff. The ending lost me, but the rest was really great.

LOVED this film!!! Mile, great job. This has to be one of the most creative films in the festival. A total 'out-of-the-box' flick. Music worked great...the edit, out-there! This is one of my very favorites of the fest. I'm really looking forward to more of your work in the near future.

Congrats!!

Liked the jump cut editing approach you took. I also dug what happens to this mime when she starts freaking out and get trapped by an invisible box. Clever. I think your lighting could varied a bit or at least not have been so even. Sorry so short, but those are my thoughts!

Thanks to all, glad you liked it.
BryceA - I agree about lighting, in the next one I'm planning to work more on that area, experimenting a little and so on.
Galbach - I don't sleep. Ever. :D
Zaza - Thanks a lot! Glad you liked it.

Alex - yes, well the story itself is shortened due to lack of my abilites of writing/directing.

SPOILER

In short, this is the story about a young girl who leads a depressing life, as stated. Antidepresives, alchohol and no social contact with other people is what leads her to the brink of madness.
Eventually, she bought a picture frame-the one you get with a picture inside it, and picture here was some randomly little girl.

As said before, her lack of sanity made her imagined that she was mother that had daughter she lost. This would be shown in the movie by showing she never had sexual relationship-which would lead to conclusion that either she adopted the kid or was imagining it.

Another thing that's missing is the video tapes she would play over and over watching their happy moments-of course, the tapes in reality are just video noise, and album is empty. The only real clue of that girl is the picture within the frame, the picture she never looks at because she might lost her touch with that imaginary world. That's the fragment that bounds the realities.

Eventually, we see her getting more and more depressed, as she continues her illusion of a life she never actually had.(the life she lead for months, before the fatal day). At the very brink of her death, she's getting lost between reality and the world her subconsiuss created. First, the TV shows video noise instead of images that were supposed to be there, and last picture missing in album is also what makes her getting more pills, to escape the reality as much as possible. Her greatest challenge has already become the ability to succesfully evade the fact her daughter isn't real, her dreams aren't real, and by that point, nothing is real in her life.

In the end, the two world collapse around her, as her subconciosness created them so real she forgot about the real one.

I miss a lot of shots here-video tapes, buying the frame, a dialog in which her virginity is revealed, and some other things.

I guess I need to practice and learn a little bit, this probably could be pulled out, but I just didn't know (and really, hadn't enough time) to do it right.

SPOILER END

I enjoyed your film, but was a little confused at the end (and a lot confused after I read your explanation - definitely makes her seem much crazier). At first I wasn't sure about all the jump cuts, but you won me over with the pill-popping, drinking scene. That whole montage was really well done, fit perfectly with the tone of the movie!

Hmhmh Mile..

I watched your movie several times and I certainly can not say that it was pleasant, but the subject at it self ( insanity, loosing of a child ) is not a pleasant theme.

I am actually curious, why have you been motivated to shoot exactly that story.. We shoot ours, just because we tought it would suit the festival's theme, nothing else..

Sorry, but I don't feel that alchohol and narcotics have much to do with Twighlight zone - another dimension.. Those two tings can be excuse for madness and dilirium, and for the lack of something innatural..

I am hardly waiting for another fest, to see what will be your next movie ( and from another authors, also )!!

Pozdrav

Mile,
I loved this film. It was bold and beautiful to watch. I enjoyed it as if it were a piece of art in an art gallery. I especially enjoyed the psychotic feel of the editing. I really became engulfed in all the feelings your actress displayed., she was amazing. Great film overall one of my top picks for sure.
