"Dead Week" - A film by Kyle Stebbins (and company)

Is that Ricky Martin for that split-second... and then John Lennon...followed by censored George Bush?

Your film blows...

...my mind. This movie was so over-the-top, I was laughing all the way through and had to watch it again. Great job man I loved every second of it, certainly my favorite so far.

Classic.

Cool film, man! Zombies are always a good choice! I really liked that "Reg" guy, sounded so similar to Jack Black at moments, but his delivery was great. When he's thinking about going back to take the exam, in particular was really funny.

Also loved the shot where the zombie's approaching in the background, while they're talking against the side of the store. Having that all basically in one shot was very cool.

Hehe, timing that was a little tricky... and operating the boom on that scene was a lot of fun; Kyle kept running around the guys and I was nearly tripping on dangling cables

Thanks, man. As Nate said, that was a rather tricky shot.

I loved Benjamin Merrymeadows. I'm not kidding. -- I would love to buy a DVD filled with your short films involving this character.

Fantastic work.

I'm doing myself a disservice by rating all these films so highly but I was laughing and crying all the way through. I want to see a feature length of this... make it for maybe 20k and have it be the next 28 days meets Shawn of the dead meets grindhouse. Damn! That was great!!!!!

Hey Mike! I understand where you are coming from! So many of things are excellent!!!

I'm in it for the portfolio =) If I win, anything... it's just frosting on the cake. Dead Week will be put up in my design portfolio at kylestebbins.com soon.

Hahaha. Thanks for the kind words, man.

Hi Kyle,

Your film is a very well done ironic version of zombies are everywhere :zombie_smiley: - fantastic - I laughed a lot! I love the piano music at the end - its underlined still more the irony. The hawai shirt is good colour detail. The only thing I didn't like is the film scratch effect - it seemed to me not necessary and confused me only, but this is only a minor detail. Your film is very entertained - Compliments!

Hey Kyle

The bit where he walks past the zombie and waves is truly hilarious. We all pissed ourselves. I also love the concept, people trying to finish an exam during a zombie outbreak. I think this is by far your most accomplished short. Ok, technically it wasnt perfect but I understand you're working the best with what you have and that cannot be helped; you delivered a really entertaining short. Well done guy.

Hey Kyle I really liked your film!

The Reg character was hilarious. My favorite moment being the "nu n n no n n n n" where hes saying no and it goes all grindhouse. I've watched that part about 5 times and its still funny.

Anyway....cool movie..and quite funny....great job!

Kyle! Thanks for the comment on my thread, man!

I'll be coming back here after I watch "Dead Week;" I'm sure it will be with some laudatory words.

Great film Kyle! I'm diggin' the whole Grindhouse look & feel (almost went in that direction with one of my entries...). Very good acting all around. The look is outstanding, really good camera work. If I have to pick, it's still the arms & legs of the zombies...they all have such great tans!

This was a very enjoyable film....you know Zombies & ****!
Keep up the good work.

Regarding that statement, I just want to give a shoutout to Leigh, our makeup artist and my good friend. She was our zombie expert; she's read several books and was the first person I went to when Kyle pitched the film. She had actually been wanting me to do a zombie flick for some time, so I was thrilled to give her the opportunity.

However we did overlook quite a few zombie facts in favor of sheer entertainment, to which she was openly opposed a few times, so I promised her we'll revisit the genre in the future with more scientifically accurate input from her

I'm extremely proud of Leigh and what she did on the film, especially what she sacrificed to make the shoot dates. From giving me rides to Lincoln to spotting me a few bucks for Jimmy John's due to my current financial pickle, to having to makeup required hours at school on weekends after we wrapped.

It was the first time we had worked together on a film really (other than our random 24-hour spur of the moment projects months back), and she was fully committed. I couldn't be more happy to have given her the opportunity, nor more proud, and I can't wait to work on more projects with her.

Here's to Leigh Stoffer, my fellow ninja

Really enjoyed the shot of the two guys running up the stairs w/o the sound. Great mood. So, I take it you just looooooved Grindhouse? Makes for a fun entry. Overall I thought the execution was maybe better than the parts. The acting is admirable, etc, but I felt the strong points were the direction and editing. You really pulled off the grindhouse elements of the film. It was competently staged (elevator ending, parking garage, etc). But I felt the flick sagged in the drawn-out stoner/nerd talky talk scenes. Once again, great execution. Keep it up. :zombie_smiley:

Thanks for checking it out, Bryce.

I really appreciate the kind words on the execution. There were times during production that cohorts would be given a chance to look over the script and would hand it back telling me it wasn't good. The first reaction I got out of a lot of them was "Wow, this was a lot better than I thought it would be after reading the script".

I guess I just know what I'm capable of visually, and what Nate is capable of, and I felt like Dead Week was going to be successful as a grindhousey sort of flick. A few people left the team, but we still stuck together and got it made and because of that we are more proud of how the final film turned out than I think we ever imagined.

So it means a lot to hear you say that.

The actors were a lot of fun to work with, and were always ready to do more than they were asked. I think this shows in the piece.

:zombie_smiley::zombie_smiley::zombie_smiley: thanks!

lol 'zombies and ****', this was funny! I found the 'film dirt' and 'subtle' imagery to be distracting. The overall plot reminded me of "Superbad meets Shaun of the Dead', but it was still funny. Good muzzle fx!

I've begun to agree with your feelings on the film dirt. As I watch it more and more, and believe me... I know we've all seen our own TwiFest entries enough times to make us sick... I'm starting to realize that I may have overdone it with the subtle imagery and grain.

Since the upload deadline, however, I have actually reworked some of the subliminal stuff. It's been tucked into better motivated sections of the flick... where it might be even more subliminal. ;)

Cool to hear that it reminded you of both of those films. Thanks for stopping by, Shawn.
