"TWISTED" - A ZazaCast Film

Where's the Llama?

Really nice job Joe. Nice rack focus' Interesting lighting, although i would've advised against the organgy-red light just because dv is really blocky with that color, but other than that...

Isn't that the way politics works? This is more of a reality show.

Congrats!

Just finished watching Twisted. Love the opening shots! Cool concept and characters. I especially like the radiostation "DVX 420"!

The footage seemed a bit warm but I liked your use of rack focus for some of the small dialog transitions.

Great work man.

Thanks, this was the first time using a 35mm adapter and I really was going for a softer look here. I wish you'd have listen to the radio broadcast closer as that wasn't the name of the station... but hey...thanks anyways!

Rack Focus was awesome
Character's were interesting

A little confused as to what was really going on towards the end

But I liked it, was well made.

Cheers & thanks for the comments.

AHHHH F*CK! I wrote a little review over here and then my internet connection got lost. HATE when it happens!

Music and story are good, and they fit each other. Love the whole idea, AND they way it got pulled through. I watched the film twice to understand everything, and I even liked it more during the second watch.

The house at the beggining-I so much wanted to see where that middle of nowhere is. There's no total shot (if that's how it's said in english), and though it may not be suitable for tempo at the beggining, I want to see where that twisted house/storage was!

Dialogues are very good, I just didn't like one part (it looked a little bit 'frozen', unreal), sound is really good here, and some transitions between the shots had a little strange effect on me. I didn't mean filters or so, but in-between shot, ot more accuratley, the places where I think they needed to be.

Radio DVX 420:D is a great idea, I would only (gee, how annoying I can get) put some static or unimportant broadcast before the one that affects the story. This is to get a feeling that the sound of the speaker really comes form the radio (not that it didn't looked like that this way).

All in all, I think music+shots are your best, you got some twisted idea there, and I liked the film.

Oh, and if there was juuuust a little more of that twisted part with man and the hoods, I would be overjoyed.:D

Thanks for the review, this is all very helpful information & most appreciated!

Nice pacing and acting in this one. I really liked the opening sequence as well. I think I got the ending, but I'll watch it again to make sure. But, way to go. 2 films done - very nice.

Cheers & thanks for commenting.

Another great job ZaZa. I enjoyed this one as well and might possibly be my fav of the two. I liked a lot of your composition and the lighting fit the bill but my favorite part was your story.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!

A smile came over my face during the radio broadcast because it's an angle we never see portrayed in Sci Fi...the politics of the whole thing. It resonated, especially with things the way they are in the States right now. I chuckled at the very ending. Left me wanting to see more...how everything pans out. Really good job.

OK here is my respoce in order...
love the camera movement
love the cutting 1:39
needs room tone for the audio
2:36 nice rack focuses
3:11 odd insert
Whoa, what just happened???

Are the guys talking aliens?

So basically I really liked it but my dumbass got lost in the end... if the guys in the car at the end are aliens then ... wow cool story. Technically, I was being nit picky because I just watched piccadillos, however, it really really is a solid pice. One of the best parts of it was the locations and connecting them to your story in your thread.

Sorry man, I was putting a few back while enjoying everyone's movies. I'll give it another watch.

This had lots of great lighting, I really enjoyed it. 1:12 we see rim on the older guy, and then we you rack to the younger guy, we see backlight on him. Nicely done. I like 3:22, when we see both of them. Very very clever.

What kept taking me out of the "suspension of disbelief" was the scenes of bodies struggling in the van. They looked very unnatural, I kept being reminded these were actors being told to struggle. I think if you would have strapped them to the floor then it would have looked convincing. Or if you would have had them struggle more violently. But all they did was shake their head and hands - it looked funny.

I got the story at the very end, I think - aliens abducted the politicians, killed them off and inhabited their bodies. But there was nothing there that made me care about their plight. I think this will be a common situation throughout all these entries - it's way easier to care about your character in, say, LoveFest.

Nope.. you didn't get it...but then again... I didn't understand your film either. The reveal is in the radio broadcast and where the actors react to it. There are also many hints throughout the film.

Thanks you for watching and commenting... this stuff is a HUGH help.

I think I'm detecting a trend here - most of us need to work on our scripts. There's a fine line between spoon feeding the plot and making it unintelligible. I know I failed to be clear. I thought I was, but most of my audience came back with a "huh"?

I agree....break out the spoons!:)

good film.

loved the shot at 3.23 where the one guy was munching on a sandwich and the other was a shadow on the back wall. great look.

didnt like the look at 4.10 where the two guys are talking directly into the camera.

not sure about the story in the end, i thought i got it but then read a previous comment which repeated my thoughts and that was wrong. i think i will re watch the broadcast, which i really liked as an idea.

really liked the politics you involved into the story.

Acting was great in this one and the camera angles were great. Awesome use of DOF in a narrative manner. Good dialog, not on the nose at all. THe music is a little weak. Could have been a lot more interesting. Best music was at the very end as the van is driving away.

The nonlinear editing was a little confusing... until the very end of it. The reveal at the end was perfect though and was a good payoff. Will have to watch again.

Title sequences need work since they seem to not match the movie.

All in all a pretty good show which all comes together at the end. Nice work.

Hey Joe,
I think I understand it, but it was a bit confusing. I really liked quite a bit of it, really good shadows and the overall look of the piece. On the con side, I would say that you don't need as many shots of the actors wriggling around with the hood on their heads, one shot is enough. Maybe have the plot fleshed out just a bit more, although that's just me.

Great job, and good luck on the next one!

Jon

Thought I commented on this? Maybe it was lost in the blackout...

This was good. I really loved the opening! Grabbed me right away.
The rack focuses during their conversation were pulled off well. Nice political edge to this as well. Something most people stay away from.

The acting was pretty good too!

Nice work.

Mike

Thanks for all the comments. Some people get it, some don't (expected), but ALL this feedback is most helpful and will be reflected in my future films. Thanks to all who reviewed & commented so far.
