You should vote for all, but it is better to vote for ONE instead of NONE. That's the point.
Again, that's your opinion and possibly the opinion of the forum here.

If I'm going to vote for one, I'm going to watch them all and vote for all of them. No, I won't rate them up against one another, but I will give them all a vote.

If everyone did what you just said only the most popular (through word of mouth) movies would even get a vote.

That's exactly what I am saying. Increase the samplecount ---> better to vote for ONE instead of NONE. Every vote increases the sample count.

And to even out the difference in the sample count significantly, we have the 8 finalists.

Not if those votes are all going to the same 2 or 3 movies it's not. Not fair to the others in my opinion. :)

I've sent you a PM. I don't want to crap all over a perfectly good thread.

Bottom Line: Do your best to vote for as many movies as possible! All if you can. I think we both agree on that.

Cheers,

Mike

But this is not going to happen. Everybody watches different movies. Of course some will get more than others. But that's also part of the learning process and it prepares you for the real world, where marketing is essential.

Yep, we do on that one :) VOTE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!

I download all of them, and then start watching top to bottom on my 42" plasma,

If i really can't handle a film anymore, I skip to the ending and then move to the next film, otherwise I try and watch thru all of 'em.

Disagree. There are too many people with friends on here and there is no outside marketing allowed, so....
The results would once again be biased.

Last time I'm going to say it... (I promise this time).

EVERYONE worked damn hard on their entries and there is no reason why one movie deserves a rating over another. Yes, the rating result might not be what you want but they all deserve one, from everybody. It's valuable information in order to help you get better, being judged by your peers. The results are made available after the fest and are very useful to everyone. Feedback even more so.

EDIT: I just want to be clear here, I have no problems with how this Fest is run. The improvements they have made in the past 2 or 3 festivals have been dramatic! My hat's off to them.

Cheers,

Mike

I also think that the system should only count votes when that user has rated all. I don't think you should be allowed to vote if you haven't seen all the films.

I totally agree!

Who's on first?
Yes he is.

I agree with this too...after all, we are given plenty of time to watch all the movies. No one is saying you have to sit down and watch them all at once.

I disagree. Last fest, I voted on all but a few. I simply ran out of time. And became jaded to the films. Yet I voted on a good 90 plus % of them.

This fest I will watch as many as I physically can. Since I am currently bed ridden, it should be easy to get through them all. Now wether I will watch the entire film or not - that is another story. Yes, I understand that people have worked hard - but some films I can't get through no matter what I do. It is bound to happen. People love some films and hate others.

To each his own, I will do the best I can to watch and vote on everything. But fact of the matter is - that might not exactly happen. And the general practicality is the high profile films instantly get watched. And then the rest of the line is watched. At least that's how I see it played. I might be utterly wrong.

Good point. I try not to become jaded - but it does happen. Every fest. I remember with TimeFest - "NOT ANOTHER TIME TRAVELING FILM PLEASE!"

I agree, sometimes you just can't get to voting/watching all of them.

7 hours? Piece o' cake. 1 long day I can probably finish them all, and write notes for later comments. Got the computer hooked up to the TV and sound system, and the booze and popcorn ready.

Us Wacoans are watching all of em at my place. We may be a bit inebrated by the last 1/3 but we'll watch em!

Rogan

ps I too am boycotting anything Penguin!

I'm a little late on this thread...but here's my two cents (and I don't mean to seem jaded... but I know I'm gonna come off like a dick).

For me, a major part of this festival is the promotion of your film in the "coming attractions" section.

We're all busy people, making film's out of our love for the art and not because we do it for a living. We all have outside obligations and probably don't have the time to watch ALL of the films.

This is why you get in the boards, talk about your film, get people excited about it, and get excited about other peoples films. That way, when voting/rating time comes around... you're emotionally invested in the people and their films and you're excited to watch them.

If (to use the now infamous) "Joe Six-Pack" submits a film without having ever created a thread or posting in anyone else's thread and making their presence known, am I really obligated to spend the time and watch their film, rate it, and critique it for them? I'd rather spend that time doing that for those who stopped by and poked their head in my thread and said "what's up, check out what I'm doing," you know?

Jeez I am sounding like a dick. Look, I've been a member... well, I should say Lurker, for over three years. And only since I decided to enter into this fest, did I understand the importance of the community and the interaction between it's users. There are some REALLY fantastic people here, and I don't think it's right to expect them to spend the time and watch your film if you haven't taken the time to say "hi" to them. Though, ironically, these same fantastic people I'm referring to would just as well oblige and watch your film.

So speaking for myself (because I would like to be one of these fantastic people), I will do my best to watch as many films as I can, but I'm definitely giving priority to those who've utilized the forum and made a personal impression on me.

blindbuzta, I completely get your point.

And even though I do plan to watch all the films, I am most looking forward to the films from people I know or I have had a conversation with on the forums.

Good lesson, even great films can get passed by if they don't have good marketing.

These forums here are a micro respresentation of hollywood, and how important it is to get the word out about your film.

That said...wouldn't it be great if our hands weren't tied as far a marketing on the site? I put together a nice trailer for one of my films, but can't post it until the fest is over, even though it doesn't contain any footage from the film itself.

Maybe someday we could have a sub-fest (or TrailerFest) to see who can make the best trailer for their fest film? We all know that it's an art unto itself.

Barring any unforeseen hindrances, I'll be watching all of the entries.

I'm actually pretty darn excited about seeing what everyone's got.

Seeing that the discussion is going into more detail, I'd like to put a supplement in this thread. I want to watch all the films, also the ones that didn't give so many comments in the threads, because I think that these ones need to be watched and commented, but I also agree with blindbuzta that to use this forum like it is reality is not a bad idea - which means that filmmakers also need to make public relations and not only make a fílm!

But one thing I find really important to say is this: When I watch a film and it is obviously violent, I stop watching it. I mean if you can see the moment of violence! I'd like to make an example: The film "Constance" by Mark Harris in LoveFest: I watched his film until the main character was lying on the floor and the other man pressed a napkin with his hand in an open wound of the man lying on the floor. For me it is not necessary to see this scene - it is possible tecnically and aesthetically to create the same atmosphere without showing it directly. Next fest, Mark Harris put the film "RPDM" in TimeFest. There he didn't show violent details (I know there are single frames where you could see extreme violence, but they are very very brief!), but he created a film with violence! BTW this film was my absolutely favourite film of TimeFest. Also the film from Quintin Tarantino "From dusk till dawn" is completely violent, but you can't see really the violence!

Seeing that some entries of TwilightFest could go in the direction of horror and may include obviously violent scenes, I find it important to explain my point of view and where I will stop watching a film and therefore not vote and comment on it!
