Offloaded with PC, now how to get it to FCP

Okay,
So I have drug my clips to my external HD. I have imported the entire contents folder into FCP, that brought with it the ICON folder and inside that folder is my clip... however, that clip is not moving... it is just an image of the starting frame.
Can someone tell me how to take footage from the P2, offload to a PC, export to an external HD, and get the clips in FCP.
thanks
jared

Which version of FCP?

On 6.x it's long and transfer.

It is necessary to detail version numbers of OS and FCP and what hardware you are using.

Jrod,

First of all, the best way to offload and ingest into FCP the way you want (i.e., by copying the contents of the P2 folder to an external drive/folder) is as follows:

1. Create a new folder on the destination drive (e.g., Shot_01).

2. Copy everything on the P2 card (not just the CONTENTS folder) into that folder - make sure you do not miss the Lastclip.txt file.

3. Once in FCP, go to Audio/Video settings and make sure your capture codec matches the footage specs (e.g., 720p/24 or whatever).

4. Go to Log and Transfer (not Log and Capture), there's a little icon which lets you tell FCP which folder you want it to look in for your P2 footage - select the folder you created in step 1 and voila - all your clips will show up.

Good luck.

thanks for the help man... one thing... all i found when i offloaded the card to my pc was a contents folder... i don't see any other files which concerns me since you are telling me to make sure and copy everything *not just the contents folder...

Nexis referred to the LASTCLIP.TXT file. Each P2 card has one asociated with the CONTENTS folder. hey should not be separated. The best way to maintain the P@ card integrity is to create a new folder, named whatever you want, and copy the P2 contents all to that folder, then leave it alone, and navigate to that folder to do the Log & Transfer.

help me out guys!!! i am scared that i have lost footage now. i used one p2 card for all day shooting. i had to offload 3 times and now all i have are 3 content folders. here is what i did, someone help me out on what i did wrong and help me out on making it work with fcp if possible-
okay, so when the p2 card was full, i brought it over to my ibm laptop running XP. i opened p2cms and when the clips appeared i clicked edit-select all, then i clicked file-export. i told it to export them to my desktop, which it did, but it only exported a contents folder. when i look in the contents folder there are alot of other folders but i do not see lastclip.txt in any of them???
where did i go wrong losing this file? how do i prevent it next time? and most importantly, can i get this to work the way i have it now without that lastclip.txt file.
i will not have access to an edit bay until wednesday night but would like to know what i am in for when the time comes.
HELP!!!

My understanding (I'm not the expert here) is that the lastclip.txt is used for spanned clips and continued clips. If you only used one P2 card, you couldn't have any spanned clips, but you may have sopme clips that went over the 4GB limit. Try just creating an empty file called lastclip.txt in each folder where the CONTENTS folders are and see if you can import.

You haven't lost anything, in all likelihood. Lastclip.txt is used only so the camera knows what the last clip was that was recorded on that card, so it knows what number to start the next recording at. That has no relevance once the footage is copied to the computer. You should be able to Log & Transfer (or, better yet, Raylight/HDLog/MXF4QT) all that footage.

Heck, just try using P2CMS to see that your footage is there. Set the source to be your copied contents folders, and you should be able to see and play all your footage.

jrod81, relax dude, you're ok. everything you need is still there. i went through the same panic until I figured this out, of course with the help of the members here! :) I did exactly what Barry suggested regarding FCP's Log & Transfer and you'll see all of your footage.
