5DII DOES 1080P footage!!!!!!

So we're assuming that the 5D actually tells you what ASA and Shutter the camera is shooting at? Unlike the Nikon D90?

By what Vincent has said, that's what it looks like.

Do either cameras shoot with any kind of electronic shutter? or is it just 360...

It's Electronic. Although, I honestly can't even staple that on the board as a fact. No telling what these janky things are doing.

I should have phrased that better...I mean of course its electronic. But is it 360 (off) or 1/48 -1/50 or changeable.

I know youre answer will be the same, but I'm just making my question more specific.

I'm guessing 360.

I think he does as well. The stills look fantastic downrezzed, aside from a couple of visible issues with color.

This discussion isn't about the still portion, though. And, you can't tell what has a video-like cadence from stills. =T

I think it will be more than cadence alone but you are indeed correct in that we need to see the RAW and Compressed in motion.

I sent him an email and posted a request for a torrent so we can get our hands on the footage and see what gives.

....

That said, shooting 30fps in video shows itself in motion...pans, tilts, rapid movements by actors. Most would never pick up on this, but there are those who do see it, and it drives them nuts. It lends itself to epitome of all things looking video, and that is why you have so many people die hard for 24p. Whether some understand the reasons or not.

Such is life.

If they are stuck on that asthetic they are stuck.

Same with the fight and resistance against talkies, aspect ration, and color....

At iba pa, at iba pa, at iba pa....

I dunno who praises my work since I rarely ever show it to anyone. o_O There's a good reason for that, as well.

Video Grabs, can you believe it!

"One more thing since this is a common question: most of the framegrabs you see on the blog so far - therefore from the video I shot - were shot at a still exposure setting equivalent of 1/15th at f2 at 1600 ASA - which is stunning.

That actually is incredible.

I recently purchased a Canon L series 70-200mm F4 IS - fantastic lens, but...

I wonder if this lens would be usable for night shots on the 5D MKII, or if I should exchange it for the F2.8 version. Seems like the ISO range on this camera is pretty incredible - takes a while before the noise train shows up.

Also, this camera won't be out for a bit - since no manuals have been printed up yet, perhaps the feature set isn't quite locked down.

And if the 30P isn't locked to the hardware, possibly it, as well as a few other things could be tweaked after purchase.

We'll see, but whatever it is, good things are coming people!

You cant argue film and video. They are two entirely different entities. Two different looks, two different TOOLS.

Video is a generated image. a signal. same thing frame after frame after frame.

Film is photo chemical. It has grain structure. As you mentioned. Each frame is different. Its organic. And watch a film on a print through a projector at 24fps is what our brains see as normal movement. persistence of vision. Our brains literally retaining the image we just saw for a split second before the next image appears.

Many argue it creates or enhances emotion. Where as video viewing is more hypnotic and zombifying.

But now with digital projection, HDTV, HD to Film, Film to HD. The lines are so far blurred its hard to argue anything anymore. Hardly even worth the time in many cases.

Agreed. There's no such thing as a "better" frame rate. It's a matter of artistic choice. It's however a fact that 24p is the de facto standard in filmmaking.

So by denying that number one choice, Canon has definitely made a statement..

Hahahaha.

Do you realize how stupid you people sound? A film shot anything other than 24P is not worth watching...

What did you do before the DVX? Shoot terrible movies? Or soccer games?

How many of you have ever shot film? 24P does not equal film look. To say that is simply stupid. It's like people saying without a 35mm adapter - your film sucks.

Film gets the film look for a variety of factors. One is the graceful failure as opposed to the clipping with exposure latitude.

The second is that - because of the silver halide crystals in the actual film - the image on each frame is essentially different in composition. These blended together at playback give you that ascetic, not the frame rate.

Let me guess, not 1080P, not a film? Simply because of how it was shot?

And to let you know - since you know oh-so-much. Consumer cameras don't even shoot 30P. They shoot 29.97 Interlaced. Your arguments make you sound as if you don't understand the idea of the film world. Ever argument you all have made sounds rediculous.

You mean to tell me that someone who shoots 24P with a 35mm adapter will instantly make better images than say an XTR Prod shooting 30 frames a second?

YOU have my vote!!! Finally somebody who understands here.
People please stop talking about framerates! Thank you.

Am I missing something? How do you shoot 30fps at 1/15th?

Since it seems that the settings are displayed, buying one of those vari ND filters would solve the manual shutter problem, wouldn't it? You could pretty much dial in the desired shutter speed via the filter.

Let's write Canon a letter. Dear R&D, we want our 24p..

Pleeeaaassseee!

A fellow on a professionals forum I'm a member of spoke with Canon reps at an unveiling specifically about the video on the MK2.. he said Canon is not closed to the idea of offering 24P via firmware change if there's a demand for it..

what a defensive stance bro! so are they waiting until a competitor will sweep the board then? i'd rather go for the full monty!
