Where to make documentaries? Choose any country in the world!

Hi everybody!

I'm a second year student at a film school in Norway, and in January we are to make documentaries in another country for four weeks. We can choose any country we want as long as it's not a war country or "dangerous" with malaria and such.

We have to decide October 10, and we have discussed it a lot without any conclusion. So I thought maybe DVXUser was the place to ask for advice!

Money is of course an issue (we're students after all), but it would be real fun to hear what you people think would make a nice destination for great documentaries.
:)

Oh, we pay for our own trip so hehe, that's why money was an issue, but first of all we want to make something great.

Djibouti seems like a country that our school would say "hmmm..." to haha. Found this when googling it:

I was about to say Sudan, until you mentioned that whole Malaria thing. I'm heading to Cambodia October 2nd for a few weeks to shoot out there, but the list of shots you have to have is pretty extensive as well. Malaria is included (although, that's not a shot ... just pills ... who knew?)

If they're paying for the trip, I would check out New Zealand!

Probably a boring thought for most of us, but come out here to the US.

If you are paying for the entire thing yourself, why does the school get the power to disapprove the location?

As for my answer... I'd think of some kind of issue that you are passionate about and then begin thinking of the best place where you can show that. If you want to stay unbiased, I'd just pick a situation that interests you.

One of our teachers mentioned Cambodia, but she also said no malaria so hehe I don't know. Many of us wants to go to US, but they say it's to expensive...

I, personally, want to go to South Korea. Anybody on here who's been filming there?

The school is responsible for anything that happens to us they say...

Many good suggestions here. Dubai was actually an early alternative.
