James, you never said this was to be critiqued as a music video.
You presented it as footage you shot at the RNC demonstrations, which led pretty much everyone to assume it was to be seen as a doc.
And everything you said in response was about the events themselves, and how you wanted to present them.
You never once mentioned the music, the band, or the fact that this was a music video.
So I can't say I'm surprised when others saw it as a documentary short of the events of the day.

If this is a music video - well, then that's a whole different story.
Though given your response, I'm not sure what you want to hear from people.
The video is essentially a propaganda piece, with heavy imagery and titles that clearly push a specific viewpoint.
But if you don't want us to discuss the presentation in regards to the content (and only in respect to the music) that doesn't leave much to discuss.

As far as how this plays as a music video - personally I would say it is rather heavy handed and takes the focus away from the music itself.
That said, I feel you used the beat of the music well - but, given that you're working with event footage,
without knowing what else was shot it's difficult to critique the edit itself.
Just my two cents.

The song is called "Police State" the group is called Dope Sic Love
This is their website www.myspace.com/dopesiclove

As far as the footage being used. I can do whatever I want with it.
I own it. I shot it. I have over 3 hours of footage to do with what I
feel I want to do.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion. I applied for the media pass 6
months ago. I also have an exclusive with Triumph the insult dog,
Jon Stewert, and other stuff from inside the RNC at the Xcel.
Yes I was even inside.

No I'm not a republican or I might be, and that does not matter,
but my inlaws are ceo's of some major companies that granted me access.

I own Battle Creek Films, I am a contract shooter for the US Swimming Teams,
and I work for Al Jazeera English. It was Al Jazeera that allowed me to get a pass.

1 more thing. To that guy who wondered why an 8 year old was down there in the
first place. Well St. Paul is big. And people actually live in the city here. And the riots
started by the Capitol and the Xcel center then traveled to lower town. This happened
about 8 miles from where the protest's were happening. That girl and her family had
no clue that it was coming to them there. They were eating at a sub shop, which is below
the very building they live in. So I don't know how you can tell families to leave your
house until the RNC is over. Give me a break.

As I said before this thread was already on thin ice.
Keep it about the video.

People can't stay on topic because they feel they are an advocate
for the world. But anyways...

Thanks to all who have checked out the video. I will post the following 3
as I get time to edit them. I have a few commercials to make and couple
weddings. Then I will be righ back on track to finish these videos.

Thanks
- James

Looking at this from the technical side of things, I thought the editing was pretty cheese ball. I would much rather see the footage edited very cleanly and simply. The cheap effects took my attention off of what was happening and pulled me out of the video. I felt like I was going to have a seizure from all the flashing.

that's my 2 cents
